It's almost impossible for us to perform worse really. So far with preseason and reg season we have 1 split squad win.. - Hextall271
it was a shootout win, if I'm not mistaken. |

So what's Berube's system that will be so vastly different from Lavy's? Or are we thinking Flyers will bring someone else in after a few games for HC? - mcefalu
I don't think that's going to be the case.
My guess is that they simplify things like they did down the stretch last year. |

Yeah, no clue how it's going to work.
Maybe Berube has a good plan for this team.
I know one thing, like I mentioned earlier, regression is going to be his best friend and likely make his impact look more than what it really is. - bradleyc4
I don't think regression's going to help him much -- they're not even generating the right kinds of shots that lead to goals, off sustained possession in the offensive end, or even off the rush.
A prime example was yesterday, when Voracek should've absolutely teed one up from 20 feet out, in the slot, on an odd-man break. Instead, he passed it off to Giroux.
I have serious concerns about the overall hockey IQ of the roster as it currently stands, top to bottom.

The Flyers brass are secretly grooming Brian Boucher in Switzerland to take over as the new head coach in 2014-15. - Moose_15
You mean Guy Boucher don't you. The 1-3-1 would look good in Philly. Lol |

They're not good at enough at getting the puck through the neutral zone and into the offensive zone with possession.
Yes, obviously if you're hemmed in your own zone, you're going to rack up hit and blocked shot totals. It's all connected. But Rinaldo has a track record at not being good with the puck. And I don't buy into the myth of "momentum changing hits". - bradleyc4
He didnt look out of place with Couts and Schenn last night. Hell he did a damn good job at getting pucks to the front of the net.. a few very good chances. |

I agree. Whats the point in changing coaches if the system remains the same. I think it's pretty clear that system won't work with this team. |

Look at the goal on the Schenn giveaway. The Center, Couturier is coming back deep for a short outlet pass in the middle. Remind you of anything? - MJL
yea, that carle could have been making that pass w/ more of a clue and that we'd still have JVR... |

My guess is that will be the first step. I also think that this puts the players on notice that if things don;t pick up, they're the next to go. |

They're shooting 2.4% at even strength. That won't continue. |

I liked Rinaldo last night. He's the one guy who tries to simplify things. They almost scored when he threw the puck purposely to the left pad of khudobon. |

I think Hexy was in Holmgren's office this morning, taking measurements and trying to find a good spot to put his Conn Smythe trophy. |

It seemed to work, although it was effective for the call-ups at the time. I would hope the vets would be able to excel in a simplified system of some kind |

That's true -- but if you're playing Zac Rinaldo more minutes, which some are advocating, we're not exactly getting Brett Hull and Teemu Selanne on the ice.
Again, people make the mistake of equating "hard work" with "production."
Brett Hull and Teemu Selanne play hard, folks. The only difference is when they get a puck in the slot, it's labeled for a corner. When Jay Rosehill gets it, it's headed for the glass. |

That dismisses Rinaldo's obvious physical ability, and seems to state that his hitting game is simply because he's on the 4th line. - MJL
It's not a knock on Rinaldo as a player, he's just being put into a position where his line has no recourse but to continually take the body because they're not able to win the puck back with regularity.
Rinaldo's going to get a lot of hits no matter who he plays with, but he's not going to get like double-digit hits per game if his linemates could actually play the game at an NHL level. |
