I think it's more the result of the Pronger trade. They traded two first round picks, a young top 6 (Maybe top 4) defenseman and a top 6 forward for 1 year of Pronger. - PhillySportsGuy
I'd make that deal every time. Not the orgs fault that he suffered a career-ending injury. |

How does Paul Holmgren keep his job?
Bad trades.
Bad free agent signings.
Fires his coach too late.
How is this guy still your GM?? - maaddmike
hi risk, hi reward...bottom line is we are further away from cup contention since we went to the finals and things may be going off the rails... |

I love reading the constant complaints about Rosehill and Rinaldo. Its like they are responsible for Giroux, Hartnell, Voracek playing like dookie.
If anything they are the ones that have been going out and doing their job.
Giroux and Hartnell have been awful. Claiming Giroux was one of the 5 best players came a little early. Now's the time to step up and prove he is worth the contract he signed. - flyers2001
In a sport where they keep score based on how many goals you have, just because I don't worship players whose "job" is to not be able to score them doesn't make me the problem.

Which has struggled this season. Berube's PK team has been good.
The main thing Berube needs to do is get away from Laviolette's gimmicky 2-1-2 forcheck that has been working so poorly. - Feanor
It's scary how easily teams break out against the Flyers fore check. |

i just woke up to see he's fired and i'm doing dances
are you as happy as i am? - 2Real
'd be happier if we had a more detailed plan as to how Berube et al will fix this. With the lack of scoring, I'd think we might have to go with a Guy Boucher 0-0-5 and play for OT. |

Mullen's PP units have been routinely among the more effective ones in the NHL the last few years, though.
I think that Berube will try to simplify things, and use some of the adjustments that they installed last year after the rash of injuries. I also hope that the lethargy is over on the players' end of things. With the level of compete they showed, Scotty Bowman or Fred Shero would look like chumps, too |

Because the really bad moves (Bryzgalov, not firing Lavi in April) had the full support of the owner.
And Holmgren has made plenty of good trades and free agent signings, for example Lecavalier who has been the Flyers best player so far this season. |

Streit has not impressed me so far at all.
Lecav looks great

So, now that Laviolette is fired, we should be an unstoppable machine that never makes stupid boneheaded plays, whiffs on passes, or panics with the puck, correct? - jmatchett383
No, but hopefully they play with more heart and the players are put in a better position to succeed(see what i did there) |

Because in all actuality, its the owner who has been the bad influence. |

That summer of Suter/Parise/Weber is rearing its ugly head indeed.
To Homer, two in the hand is worth one in the bush.

trade Giroux - vejim
In all seriousness, I do fear a panic trade by Holmgren at this point.

I don't know if it's the system or the players, but it always seems like the Flyers never have much room to operate anywhere on the ice. It's like the other team is playing with 8 skaters.
How many odd man rushes do the Flyers get? Maybe 1 or 2 per game? |

He came with a pretty significant injury history, though. It wasn't some dumb stroke of bad luck out of left field. |

I know, but it's had a huge effect on the team. That's 4 players that could be on the team right now.
I'm not saying I wouldn't make the trade, but it has really hurt the team that he got injured because of how much they gave up for him. |

they've had enuf time since to have a semblance of a replacement by now, imo. in fact, they should have acquired that guy somehow w/ all of the talent that has left the org since '11. |

Homer should not be making any more moves IMO. Unless we completely turn this around, and it was proven that it's only the coach's fault, he should be replaced. |

Not the lost assests, but it's hurt the team because they haven't had a true #1 since.
Timonen is phenomenal, but not an elite defender like Pronger. |
