i don't see that. coach overhaul is enough for now. - hammarby31
I hope you're right, but a silly trade is one of the only bullets Holmgren's got left in the chamber. |

Not the lost assests, but it's hurt the team because they haven't had a true #1 since.
Timonen is phenomenal, but not an elite defender like Pronger. - bradleyc4
They should have offered Suter more money. He's turned out to be worth it in every way. |

That package could have gotten them Pietrangelo or Karlsson or Subban or just about anybody in the league not named Crosby/OV/Malkin/Stamkos. Instead, they opted to go for the guy who was past his prime, with a history of major injuries, as a shortcut to the Cup. |

Homer should not be making any more moves IMO. Unless we completely turn this around, and it was proven that it's only the coach's fault, he should be replaced. - Hextall271

I really just don't want the same thing as last year to happen. Team falls out of contention. All veteran trade assets get injured. Team goes on late run to secure middle round pick. |

I agree, but I don't think it was the lack of cash, but where he wanted to go. |

I don't think blocked shots are a bad thing to be leading the league in as long as your very low in shots on goal.
If you are high in both departments, teams are shootings a lot of pucks at your net. It also means the blocked shots are more a product of the total, not the team being good at it. - PhillySportsGuy
Blocking shots is part of the function of being a good defensive team. There's a lot of factors that go into both. Neither can be blindly looked at to come to assumptions about a team. |

I don't think that package could have netted them a elite defender in his early 20's. |

Wouldn't it be a more logical choice to have Paddock as the Head coach? |

My problem with the coach firing is that I'm not convinced it will serve as an appropriate "wake up call" for the players. If anything, I could see the coaching change just giving them an excuse for further poor performances.
The first game of the season, this team showed some real positives. They came out skating hard and hustling and won their fair share of puck battles. They had a lot of scoring chances.
The next two games they looked terrible. Little to no effort all around (with a few exceptions, Vinny, Matt Read) and just played really sloppy and lethargic hockey. To me that speaks more about the players than the coach.
I'm not saying a coaching change wasn't justified, I just don't know if it's going to fix anything. I hope that "simplifying" the system will yield results. We'll see what kind of group we're dealing with over the next few games. |

How does Paul Holmgren keep his job?
Bad trades.
Bad free agent signings.
Fires his coach too late.
How is this guy still your GM?? - maaddmike
Turned around team after worst season in franchise history, built a roster that made it OT of Game 6 of Stanley Cup final in 2010, posted 100-plus point seasons in 2010-11 and 2011-12, beat Pittsburgh in 2012 playoffs. Also has cache as a former player, assistant coach, head coach (that got team within two games of a Cup Final), assistant GM and now GM.
Is he infallible? By all means no.

If they blew him away with Weber money, it could have been done. Hindsight is 20/20 though.
Weber didn't look great without Suter, but Suter looked great without Weber. We may end up being glad Nashville matched. |

Couple of thoughts.
1 - Vegas is always right. Well most times.
2 - We have 2 former goons running the organization now in Holmgren and Berube and I am jealous we don't have someone like Yzerman as GM. |

Full fledged replacement.
Also I was mistaken, Berube was HC of the Phantoms for a full season, and did a decent job |

Erik Johnson (and Shattenkirk) and Jack Johnson were traded for less, while they were still highly sought after. |
