They should have offered Suter more money. He's turned out to be worth it in every way. - PhillySportsGuy
I'm not sure offering Suter the biggest contract in the league would have gotten him to come to Philly. Flyers would have had to have gotten both Suter and Parise, since they wanted to play together |

He came with a pretty significant injury history, though. It wasn't some dumb stroke of bad luck out of left field. - Tomahawk
6'7" Pronger bent over and taking a stick to the eye and ending his career...that's almost the definition of dumb stroke of bad luck.

Couple of thoughts.
1 - Vegas is always right. Well most times.
2 - We have 2 former goons running the organization now in Holmgren and Berube and I am jealous we don't have someone like Yzerman as GM. - phillydentist
seriously?
what has HE done? |

Turned around team after worst season in franchise history, built a roster that made it OT of Game 6 of Stanley Cup final in 2010, posted 100-plus point seasons in 2010-11 and 2011-12, beat Pittsburgh in 2012 playoffs. Also has cache as a former player, assistant coach, head coach (that got team within two games of a Cup Final), assistant GM and now GM.
Is he infallible? By all means no. - bmeltzer
I think the point is that Homer has done more good than bad for this team. He's creeping closer and closer towards equilibrium though. |

They're not good at enough at getting the puck through the neutral zone and into the offensive zone with possession.
Yes, obviously if you're hemmed in your own zone, you're going to rack up hit and blocked shot totals. It's all connected. But Rinaldo has a track record at not being good with the puck. And I don't buy into the myth of "momentum changing hits". - bradleyc4
It's not a myth, it happens. Such as Giroux's hit in the beginning of the playoff game a few years ago against Pittsburhg. It can definitely fire up a bench and help change momentum. The Flyers aren't good enough at a lot of things. And the biggest thing they aren't good enough at right now, you won't find in advanced stats. And that's competitiveness. |

Full fledged replacement.
Also I was mistaken, Berube was HC of the Phantoms for a full season, and did a decent job - Jsaquella
So can we determine from that what style system he implemented? |

In retrospect, I bet the Preds feel they should have taken a deal or picks for Weber and kept Suter. |

If it wasn't the head/eye, it would have been the back, the knees, anything else that goes early on most big old guys (like Rathje/Hatcher).
They were actually lucky in a way that it was career-ending and they could stash him on LTIR... imagine if he deteriorated due to age/injury and they couldn't replace him. |

If the way a player played the game was indicative of the type of coach/GM they would be, Wayne Gretzky would be the Capo di tutti capi of all coaches, and yet his teams never made the playoffs.

It's not a knock on Rinaldo as a player, he's just being put into a position where his line has no recourse but to continually take the body because they're not able to win the puck back with regularity.
Rinaldo's going to get a lot of hits no matter who he plays with, but he's not going to get like double-digit hits per game if his linemates could actually play the game at an NHL level. - Tomahawk
You don't think Adam Hall, or Couturier, can play the NHL game? Rinaldo had 10 hits playing on a line with Couturier and B Schenn. |
