Boomer and Thistle killing the Flyers for their lack of patience. Of course they also said in regards to losing the lottery and getting JVR instead of Kane, "there isn't much a difference now between Kane and JVR" and had they won the lottery, they "probably would have traded Kane" |

Berube was on the fan 590 saying it was always his dream to be head coach of the Flyers - 2Real
never gets old.
if you told me back in the 80s that one day, berube would be head coach of this team, i'd have punched myself in the face in disbelief. |

Berube saying on 590 that the Flyers are not currently playing like team on the ice. He said they need to play better team defense and that's the first thing to change in his mind.
He also they need to skate harder, move the puck quicker. (obvious stuff)
He said they haven't shown a lot of passion since training camp.
He defended his goalies when the guys on the Fan said that goaltending was at fault.. - mikel33
The goaltending hasn't been any better than the rest of the team either. |

I am baffled by that -- they haven't given up much defensively, even with the limitations in speed. If someone wants to take me behind the woodshed and say that Montreal sliced them to pieces, fine, but there were multiple PPs in that game.
It's the offense! They can't score! How many games does he think they're going to win if they continue to score a goal a night!

Take away Coughlin's two Super Bowls, and the guy has been a complete bum. - PLindbergh31
he was sensationally calm yesterday from what i saw, despite all the debaclery. his face didn't even really get red. and his arm/hip stance was pretty mild too. seriously, 0-5, you have to figure he's gone soon. |

Agree, goaltending has not and IS not the problem so far in 3 games.

I've watched maybe...15 other teams already this season, for at least a period or more.
Of those, the Flyers are the worst I've seen. I haven't seen Buffalo yet, and they're 0-3 as well.
But I'm just being honest: The Flyers are playing the worst out of any team I've seen. - AllInForFlyers

Flyers goaltending is the cudgel all hockey writers cling to when they don't have anything meaningful to say.

Losing board battles and making stupid cross ice passes and not finishing clear cut chances has nothing to do with a system! It is about hockey IQ and ability/talent. Yes G and Jake are very talented upper echelon players...Schenn X2 and Couturier I don't see it. Just because you are drafted highly doesn't equate to success in the NHL! - aantny88
That's valid, but teams have done much better with far less than what this Flyers team has. I think they have the personnel to make the playoffs. The effort hasn't been there. |

none, because this team doesn't do shutouts. |

Best of luck Chief! I hope you hold the players accountable.
Lavi, I hope your lawyers have more "jam" than your players. |

Just watched the Flyers press conference.
Question: does the Flyers management put any thought into anything they do? Is every move just based on a "gut feeling"?

Berube on hockey central. Kypreos asks if the team is tough enough.. Berube says what do you mean? This isn't the 80's anymore and the team is tough enough. Saying they have not been passionate enough and that they didn't have a good camp. Team needs to play with more speed and intensity with a better breakout. Says the players all care a lot but are incredibly frustrated right now. Says he has a good relationship with Lappy and Paddock. Berube was well spoken overall. Frank about stuff. Kypreos sai the thing going against him now is that most people think it's the same old culture of promoting from within which the press mentioned at the conference. |

Should have named Dave Brown and Dave Schultz assistant coaches. Replace Holmgren with Brashear.

If you can play in the NHL as an 18 year old, why the hell would you not be able to play in the AHL? - wolfhounds
i think because the canadian junior leagues don't want all their talent yanked as soon as they're 18 |

Yeah, I agree. Maybe not until they've completed at least two years of juniors or something. - mcefalu
yup, it just seems like they could easily put a system in place that would allow some of these outlier kids to move on without them losing all of their talent too quickly from juniors. |
