The goaltending hasn't been any better than the rest of the team either.
- mayorofangrytown

The fan 590 guys chided the tenders as being just backups, but to be fair, they have not been the issue so far. Yes, Mason should have had the first goal, but dear God, we still would not have scored enough to win. Scoring was supposed to be the strong suit for this team.

Just watched the Flyers press conference.

Question: does the Flyers management put any thought into anything they do? Is every move just based on a "gut feeling"?

- Dkos

meh, I didn't expect him to say more. I honestly feel as tho there is more involved here. I know some of the players greatly dislike Lavy, not that disliking the coach should result in a coach losing his job (see Tocchett/Billy Barber). They aren't going to be honest with stuff that is going on internally

Berube saying on 590 that the Flyers are not currently playing like team on the ice. He said they need to play better team defense and that's the first thing to change in his mind.

He also they need to skate harder, move the puck quicker. (obvious stuff)

He said they haven't shown a lot of passion since training camp.

He defended his goalies when the guys on the Fan said that goaltending was at fault..

- mikel33

and how is that even possible

giroux's postgame last night certainly left me wanting.

Forethought and the Flyers do not seem to work together

That's valid, but teams have done much better with far less than what this Flyers team has. I think they have the personnel to make the playoffs. The effort hasn't been there.
- mcefalu

Again, where does the effort come from though? From within each individual player...for christ's sake these are professional athletes, not high school kids. A Herb Brooks pre game against the Soviets speech shouldn't be necessary for them to put their big boy pants on and play like they give a damn!

Should have named Dave Brown and Dave Schultz assistant coaches. Replace Holmgren with Brashear.

Clone Rosehill 11 times! Boom!

i'd watch that.

Berube on hockey central. Kypreos asks if the team is tough enough.. Berube says what do you mean? This isn't the 80's anymore and the team is tough enough. Saying they have not been passionate enough and that they didn't have a good camp. Team needs to play with more speed and intensity with a better breakout. Says the players all care a lot but are incredibly frustrated right now. Says he has a good relationship with Lappy and Paddock. Berube was well spoken overall. Frank about stuff. Kypreos sai the thing going against him now is that most people think it's the same old culture of promoting from within which the press mentioned at the conference.
- Hextall271

Then what the hell were they doing, like, you know.. IN TRAINING CAMP?!?!?

I am baffled by that -- they haven't given up much defensively, even with the limitations in speed. If someone wants to take me behind the woodshed and say that Montreal sliced them to pieces, fine, but there were multiple PPs in that game.

It's the offense! They can't score! How many games does he think they're going to win if they continue to score a goal a night!

Why? Even after you were told by a poster that there was nothing to the Berube scuttlebutt?

I was worried about that too. Not a good camp? WTF? Seems to me everyone was going through the motions. Players prob knew he was a lame duck coach, so just coasted or something... facking idiots.

Playing with a bunch of players they knew they were never going to play with. Having over 60 players was the most idiotic decision I have ever seen by management.

Man, I could if I would, but I think we need at least two players who are not currently on this roster and might just not be in the organization.

I wouldn't take the delivery of cliches too literally... yeah, it's true, but I feel like those things are said in place of divulging specific X&O's and/or which players in the room need a kick in the pants/change of address.

That's what I am saying. The tending has been good enough to win if there are some goals.

I hear ya. It shouldn't look like a chore for these guys to get a little passionate on the ice. I guess the hits have been there, but there's also a lack of focus. Guys who usually handle the puck well making glaringly poor passing attempts to no one. Would be great if Berube can snap them out of it.
