I don't get the Berube thing. I seriously hope it is truly an interim thing.

Wow, 3 games and then gone. Must be a NHL-record, and not of the kind that the Flyers would like to have. I so hope that they actually have a plan, and that it's not a knee-jerk reaction to 'save the season'. |

Everyone who wanted Laviolette out has gotten their wish. The march towards the Cup begins tomorrow night.
Berube baby! What a resume.
Dreger sure was clueless when he threw Berube's name out there last week. - PLindbergh31
I guess it's ok as an interim, but not long term. Man this smacks of 2006. |

For the love of...you know, when they gassed Hitchcock, at least John Stevens had been a successful coach at the AHL level -- very successful.
When they gassed Stevens, they brought in a guy who had won a Stanley Cup.
When they gas the guy who won the Stanley Cup? They bring in the guy who, while courageous as a player, ISN'T GOING TO HELP US ON THE BREAKOUT AND HELP US SCORE GOALS, BECAUSE IF HE COULD, HE WOULD'VE DONE IT ALREADY. - AllInForFlyers
Exactly! Now that Chief is at the helm, how the hell can this team improve on anything? Talk about going from bad to worse! |

let's defend this decision...at least the firing part...we saw nothing over the last 50+ gms including last yr, that gave us any hope of the team being able to make the necessary adjustments to certain teams' strategies and we saw zero indication that this team was moving forward with a different approach in any significant aspect of play.
as for the berube part...i'm ok w/ it if we actually hire someone else after a comprehensive search...though i find it hard to believe that homer didn't already have a short list... |

Me too, unless they feel as though he has paid his due and is the man in charge.
If my memory serves me correctly, he has been in charge of PP and PK duties the past few seasons. Maybe he and Lava had some different views on the systems as well. At least let us hope. |

coach, GM or whatever. Something needs to change. The flyers are taking the screws to my fantasy team BIG TIME lol.
I think streit will get better as the season goes on. Hes super slow so he needs a bit of time to learn the system so he can get his positioning down, much like timonen. |

I'm pretty sure they didn't plan on firing Lavi after 3 games. I can't say I hate the move. This team looks a lot like last year's team. You can't fire all the players, so you fire the coach.
Lavi's system is proven to be effective, but it needs to right personnel. They just don't have that with this team. |

A whole training camp wasted. - shekkie
Yup.
Not firing Lavi in the offseason was another howler from the Snider/Holmgren brains trust. Almost as bad as overpaying for Bryzgalov. |

Agreed. Lava shouldn't have survived last year to be honest. If the season continues to tank they can bring in a real coach but I guess they don't want a new coach right now bc they hope to turn the year around.
Maybe we start crashing the net again. We get guys who must crash the net to be successful and then play a system of finesse. |

I don't think it's that bad. That team had next was REALLY bad. They were the worst team in hockey that year by 9 points. |

Literally almost no worthwhile replacements presently available.
This move should have come over the summer, but better now than 20-30 games in I guess. |

I am not really encouraged by the Berube hiring. I won't trash it immediately, because he may well turn out to be a very capable head coach.
The lack of head coaching experience worries me. He was head coach of the Phantoms for about three weeks, when he got brought up to the Flyers after the Hitchcock firing. |

If you were going to drop him three games in, then hell yeah, you should've fired him in the offseason.
Man, I support Paul Holmgren like few others. But if you were gonna drop the guy within 20 games, you should've dropped the hammer in June! |

I don't think Lavi's system is "pass the puck right in front of the goalie," or, "Throw the puck up the wall without looking as soon as you get it," or, "try to stickhandle through the entire team." - jmatchett383
Laviolette this Season has made changes to the forecheck scheme, and the breakout scheme. The current issues are due to a lack of execution, individual mistakes, and worst of all. An apparent lack of intensity, and hard work
The Flyers got pushed around by that small Montreal team in a putrid effort Saturday night.
Maybe they've tuned him out, but it's clearly not working. And he's likely going to pay the price. |

That really is brutal.
I guess that pointless run of decent hockey at the end of last year bought him training camp and three games. |
