Is there anyone else who would like to see Mez sit and Gus play? - PhillySportsGuy
I wouldn't make a change, but if I had to pick someone, I'd like to see Coburn sit. |

Mezaros is a useless POS. I am sure the Chief will address this one and yes put Gus in asap, put him with a guy like Grossman. |

man i hate this d corp...more the mix than the individual plyrs.
simmonds is the strange mix of a 3rd line talent in every other respect except he can score...battles along the wall, busts his ass, taps in the garbage and gets deflections & rebounds, but he's lousy defensively, can't handle and has a below avg hockey IQ
- isaiah520
If he would just simplify his game, he would be a lot better.
I think his game really gets hurt with this current team. He's forced to play in his own end a lot and help the team move the puck out of the zone. Those are his worst aspects. |

Mike Richards and Brayden Schenn can not be compared, they both have different mothers and fathers, lol
It is time to quit comparing the two and let Schenn become his own player and our player. Give the kid a break and let him develop into a Schenn type of player. - flyerdude17
Fine by me. My point is that the kid has skill and should be able to compete at some point. Has yet to play a full season |

He's not useless. I agree with the earlier sentiment that this defense is just too stationary. I remember only a few years ago when this team lacked a true net front presence on defense. It seems they overcompensated. |

That's not what either of us are saying. We're saying that he was rated anywhere from 1-5 and compared to Cheechoo and Thorton coming out of the draft. He then went on to explode in the WJC. At that point his comparisons were Toews and Tavares. His development, for whatever reason, stagnated. Coming out of the WJC he was considered an elite prospect as he'd built upon his draft stock.
He hasn't continued on that path and his stock and comparables have dropped correspondingly. I think we all wonder where he'll end up. I don't think either of us want him shipped out but I can only speak for myself. If he turned into David Backes I'd be thrilled at this point. - mayorofangrytown
I don't remember anybody outside of Toronto or LA getting that excited about B Schenn before or after the WJC's and really touting him as a superstar... I always remember thinking his ceiling was capped at a hard-working, below-average top-line center or a very good 2nd-line guy.
The comparison that always stuck w/ me was the Mike Richards one... bad skating but reads the play well, not overly big but strong on his skates, good leader. Nothing about that screamed generational offensive talent to me, but apparently some of you had much higher expectations of him. |

Yes, and it was the former coach that used that pairing. It was the former coach's system that forced those players to have to make passes that they couldn't complete. The former coach's system forced Simmonds to pukchandle more than he should have to.
The coach is the one that played the former 8th overall pick between goons and grinders almost exclusively for two years.
The Flyers need to get to work, and do it with a lot more discipline than they showed under the former coach. - Jsaquella
Jsaquella, if the chief fails I am going to put in a good word for you on coaching this team and then I would like to apply for the assistant coach position

It is more than that.
Grossmann/Meszaros are too slow as a pairing.
The defensemen, as a collective group, are inconsistent in their passing.
The forwards are inconsistent in their passing and receiving. Some of them are deficient in puckhandling.
We have young players in the lineup who are struggling to produce, for all the reasons that we've talked about.
"Skating harder" isn't going to make Nicklas Grossmann faster or a more accurate passer. That doesn't mean Nicklas Grossmann isn't an NHL player -- it just means that a pairing with Andrej Meszaros will get exposed by a team like Montreal, which has quicker forwards.
You can't be inaccurate with passes in that league. You can't turn the puck over when you're carrying it up the ice.
"Skating harder" isn't going to make Wayne Simmonds not turn the puck over at the blue line because he's a poor stickhandler. - AllInForFlyers
Ugh. SO stop watching. Go watch the Eagles until the Flyers are better and we will see you back then.

I think the problem is since the team made the playoffs, he hasn't shown any semblance of getting better.
I know young guys develop at different rates, but he hasn't even shown glimpses. In my eyes, he's regressed. |

Not sure you want to use Ottawa as an example... a team .940 SV% tends to really cover up a lot of badness. - Tomahawk
Real solid team defense contributes greatly to that .940 SV%. I absolutely want to use that as an example. |

'll prob be pretty consistent |

And when has he been healthy in the last four years, lol
He is a brain dead moron who is overpaid, takes dumb penalties and always looks like he need someone to female dog slap that silly grin off his face. He is truly my least favourite player and can't wait to see him gone. Sorry, but just my opinion. |

Yes. Andrej Meszaros can still play NHL hockey, but he's a poor fit for this lineup and a HORRIBLE fit with Nicklas Grossmann. |

I beleive the term compete harder was used, not skate harder. Certainly the Flyers need to be sharper in their execution and eliminate individual mistakes. But again, that along with upping their compete level, can be done without a single player change. |

Valid, but skating harder, I'm willing to bet, will help with the Flyers wimpy forecheck. Their forecheck has been horrendous and there are teams with far less talented players who can execute an effective forecheck simply by working harder.
I agree with the poor passing and turnovers. Far too excessive. It's early, but that type of thing needs to get figured out in the pre-season.
And I wouldn't mind seeing Gus with Grossmann - mcefalu
In my opinion the forecheck has been so undisciplined. lets just have 2 guys hit the dman behind the net after he already moved the puck up to the wing 10-15 times a game because that just works so damn well. lets have 3 forwards below the goal line without any discipline or support. this team needs structure. |

His performance certainly hasn't done himself any favors, but even in what people have labeled as a "sophomore slump" he still put up 26 points in 47 games, while on a poor team. I want to see him play a full season before I write him off. |
