Quote from Berube (D Isaac article in CP):

"You want score more goals? Do your job without the puck," Berube said. "Put yourself in a position to defend and you’ll get turnovers and more opportunities the other way."

I like how that sounds. And I'm sure people here agrees since I've heard that same sentiment here quite a lot. At least it's a start.

Great, but the question I have is how does he make that happen? What system does he employ?

If they bomb bad this year, expect a rebuild.
- PhillaBully

What could they possiibly ditch player wise? Most of the vets have no movement clauses. If they clear out the D what do they replace it with?

There's no way this team bottoms out knowingly.

yeah, I do like Berube's emphasis on playing without the puck.

Too often in the last couple of years the emphasis seemed to be on coasting without the puck.

Per Carchidi's Twitter - "Guys need to be accountable. Lavy lost his job because some guys didn’t do their job. That’s going to change." - Lappy

Hard to do a rebuild with all of the multi-year deals and NMCs they have. They're built to win now.
- jmatchett383

yeah there are some NMC, im sure most will waive. I dont think it will be a full rebuild but i could see some players getting moved...

[making his team do sprints after a lackluster game] You keep playing this way, you won't beat anybody who's even good, let alone great! You wanna make this team? Then you better start playing at a level that's gonna FORCE ME to keep you here! AGAIN!

I think so too. The only thing that worries me is that Lappy did play with a few of the current players, but it seems like they all respect him so hopefully the transition from teammate, to front office guy, to Asst Coach will be a smooth one, in terms of working with the current roster.

Sounds like a no Bullpoop regime is being put into place. Berube, lappy and paddock will command much respect. One things for sure players will be held accountable!

About time.

Its time for a once proud identity to be restored.

So far, it sounds like Berube and Lappy are saying all the right things. I'm just curious to see it on the ice. And it's not gonna happen overnight.

Lappy is great so long as he's not giving them shot blocking technique tips.

On that topic, I don't think blocking a fully wound up Subban slapshot like Grossmann did on Saturday night is a great idea. There's more chance of getting injured than of making a worthwhile play. On that occasion he didn't get hurt, but the puck was blocked straight back to Subban who had all the time in the world to pass the puck down low with Grosmann out of the play.

It's going to force them to eliminate the firewagon type stuff that Laviolette preached.

I'm hopeful they do something similar to how they ended last season, where guys support the puck and give the puck carrier good options and eliminate the overaggressive stuff that has been burning them the past few seasons.

To me, being better without the puck means being in a good spot to help the guy with the puck move it forward. It means in the defensive zone that the team is going to be asked to make sure that the house is cleaned up before they go on the attack.

It was merited. You can't beat NORWAY? I mean, maybe at a game like Kubb they're pretty good, but not at hockey.

I think a lot of this might be aimed at Mr. Giroux. Over the last 2 years I have watched him go from a scary scoring threat, to a turnover machine. Giroux's game needs to change back to what it was 2 years ago.

Still, Holmer doesn't really help by handing out NMC/NTC like M&Ms. Some players feel a bit too safe, unless it's renegotiation-time.

Not sure why Snider is blasting the Flyers camp as being the worst he has ever seen.
Does he have to try and torpedo Laviolette the day he fires the guy? Geez....

- PLindbergh31

I took it as an indictment of the players. He specifically said he liked Laviolette, as I recall.

Here's what going to happen, if the Flyers don't acquire another winger who can score and another defenseman who can move the puck:

They will continue to struggle to score. They will continue to lose games.

All those who continue to believe that the Flyers have lost 10 games since the preseason has started, coming off a non-playoff season in which they were horrific at even-strength, is because "they're getting outworked," you're not going to have a lot of fun the rest of this season until the Flyers upgrade the skill and offensive ability of this team.

It's that simple. They're not getting outworked. They're getting outskilled and outscored.

And we'll see who's right, starting tomorrow night.

They need to get Eric Lindros as a stickhandling instructor.

To me its just frustrating because it seems to be turning into another evaluation year. That should have been last season.

I do not expect, and at the same time hope, some of the apparent "core" players of this team are not here next season.

I can deal with this season restoring a once proud identity, that has been lost. We will see if a coaching change is enough.
