This probably sounds a bit crazy, but do you guys think, if things get REALLY bad this year, that Giroux could be traded? On the one hand, I can't see it happening, as this team has basically hitched itself onto him, and he has a HUGE deal. But on the other hand, it seems like no one's safe. - jmatchett383
If things get REALLY bad, why would anyone take on Giroux and a massive contract? |

He has a NMC and no I don't think that would be wise. It's very difficult to find a No.1 center. Not to mention one in his mid 20's locked up long term. - PhillySportsGuy
His new contract doesn't start until next season, so the NMC wouldn't be a problem if it came to that.
Not to say I endorse such a move even a little bit. |

They throw money at their problems... This is what eventually happens when you do that over abundantly and non-frugally - JoeRussomanno
It's not just at their problems. They just throw money. I didn't think center was a position of need in the offseason. I was hoping for a top 6 winger perhaps.
The summer before, they tried to sign Parise. This is when they had more forwards than they knew what to do with. |

I think Laviolette will get another job, and in short order. I just don't think you need to pile on when the guy hasn't even finished cleaning his desk out.
All that had to be said was simply, we don't like how the team has played and we decided a coaching change was necessary. - PLindbergh31
Yeah with TSN in Canada |

It's going to force them to eliminate the firewagon type stuff that Laviolette preached.
I'm hopeful they do something similar to how they ended last season, where guys support the puck and give the puck carrier good options and eliminate the overaggressive stuff that has been burning them the past few seasons.
To me, being better without the puck means being in a good spot to help the guy with the puck move it forward. It means in the defensive zone that the team is going to be asked to make sure that the house is cleaned up before they go on the attack. - Jsaquella
Right on the money. Even without the redline at center, players should be close enough and in open lanes to support the puck carrier. I always criticize players for making a prayer with the puck instead of a pass. That was the shero method and even with motion and speed you work to be in that supportive position for an easy headman pass or a pass to re start up ice. |

It seems like everyone is in agreement that this isn't all Lavi's fault and the players need to kick it into gear or else they may be subletting their apartments soon. - PhillySportsGuy
Oh thats a good one. Can you see Berube and Lappy walking into the lockerroom before the first skate with a real-estate agent brochure, a plane ticket to anaondak, and a Flyers Jersey and said... its your choice boys.... But you will earn 1 of the 3. |

I thought they changed that rule. If you signed an extension with a NMC, it started right away. Maybe I'm wrong. |

No, we should have got someone like Bozak. |

Well that's why I don't think it would happen. If things go well, then everyone's happy and he stays. If things go poorly, who would want an underachieving player with that cap hit? |

Giroux, Coots, Voracek, Rinaldo and Read should be the only safe forwards. - flyer_nutter
I'd add Vinny to that list, but yeah. I hear it - keep your top 2 point producers (hopefully) and the guys who show night after night that they give a rat's butt about this team. |

Yep, exactly...some times you have to step it up and press harder and take chances on offense...but the Flyers under Laviolette were always doing it and got caught too often in the trap. |

Don't think Glencross wants to waive his NMC to leave Calgary. |

Sounds about right from their perspective... Meszaros and Grossmann, while not ancient, aren't exactly guys that fit into a rebuild and rebuild budget. |

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for a couple reasons-one his hand injury. Two, he's kind of a slow starter, in general |

So now that we can't take a dump on Lavi's head anymore, it's on to Giroux? Really? |

Yep I think you are corrcet. Any deal signed in the new CBA with a NMC it goes into effect at signing, not contract start. |

Moving from Calgary to Philly isn't that big of a deal. They're like two in the same. |

They need a true number one defenseman or at least a replacement for kimmo... I'm not sure streit is even that... Instead we got lecav nice player... Didn't need him ... Streit... Uh okay but is he gonna contribute for the life of the deal? Don't think so ... And firing lavy now? So we wasted a whole offseason ... I mean if lavy was on that short of a leash was it really worth going through camp and 3 games? These decisions are mind boggling to say the least... |

Still think Coburn is of more value to us then trading him, Id rather see Grossman traded first. |
