Damien Cox is on fan 590 now with Bob Mccown. He is focusing on problems in goal.. WTF?? dear God... get a clue Toronto media. They don't like firing the coach after 3 games. Don't like the hiring of Berube because he's been around for all of this mess. |

One, I didn't state that Holmgren should be cool with the early results.
And secondly, Laviolette made significant changes from the way they played last year systems wise. It just wasn't executed very well, nor was the compete level there that it needs to succeed.
Laviolette was fired more for the lack of compete then he was for systems issues in my opinion. - MJL
Lack of compete? Not when their letting in only 2 or 3 goals. You think this crop of forwards doesnt want to go to work in the O zone? They look like they dont know how. |

Really didn't do much for me. Snider might not pick the players, or "fire" the coaches, but he certainly makes his thoughts known.
I do agree with him in making the move, it was time. The team was dead, they had no cohesion.
I'm hoping that Berube comes in and gets the discipline and gets the players to buy in to what he's selling about smarter play both with and without the puck and stressing good team defense and a strong transition from that solid defense to offense. |

I am encouraged by what Berube's said in public today, and I'm really excited to see Lappy have a more hands on role with the players. If they can get the roster to buy in and play the way they played, this team will outwork everyone on the planet. |

See, to me, it all loops back to what he's asked Homer to do.
Who gave the order to shank Carter and Richards? Who gave the order to sign the Russian goaltender, then shank him? Who gave the order to gas the coach, three games in?
I like Paul Holmgren as the GM. But nobody should try to tell me that he's pulled the trigger on all of those -- and because of that, that's why he's probably not on the hot seat. |

Paraphrasing...
If the GM comes to me an says "I want to make a change" and I say no, that means I'm the GM and I'm not. I don't really know enough.
I never fired a coach. I've fired GM's.
I've never picked a player in the history of my team (when questioned about Breeze).
Paul's job is not in jeopardy.
I don't know Craig Berube. I say hi to Craig Berube. Homer has confidence in him.
Forget wins and losses, there was nothing exciting about training camp. Nobody looked that great.
We don't care about being criticized about what is right (firing Lava after 3 games), Paul thought this was right.
I am very satisfied the way things have gone the past several years.
I expect for us to win and we'll do whatever possible to win.
Criticism from the press is fair.
The team not only lost, they were lost.
When Homer came to me about a change, we had a long discussion. |

There has been an absolute lack of compete to this point in the Season. It's why the Coach was fired.

Unless Jiri Dopita has started coaching, then yes, it should go w/o saying. |

"The number one thing we're going to be committed to is competition. If you're going to play for the (Team Hidden) you're going to compete. That's how you win games in the NHL and that's how you make your organization better."
Now, guess who said that?
Dallas Eakins, head coach of the Edmonton Oilers, during his first press conference after being hired.
The Oilers are 0-2, losing 5-4 on opening night in Edmonton, then getting manhandled 6-2 by the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
My point is this: They all say they want to compete. They all say they're going to work hard.
But that doesn't cure all that ails you.

Just talking about something doesn't fix anything. Actually doing it does. And even then, if you compete to the best of your ability, and play a team that does the same, but is simply a better and deeper team then you are, well then you can still lose the game.
But I do know this, it's exactly what Eakins said. You can have all the talent in the World on your team. If you don't compete, you're not going to win. The Flyers have enough talent to win.

No, it doesn't. But they Flyers have been outworked by a massive margin for most of three games they've played...or counting the pre-season most of the ten games they've played overall.
The team had tuned out the coach. For a variety of reasons they shut him out. Now they have a new voice that seems to feel they need to stress defense and solid 200 foot play, rather than attack style hockey.
I'm more excited about the latter part than the former.

It's just a stock response... like when players default to "110%" and "keep it simple" and "be better in our own end".
Hockey's such an opaque game from an outsider's perspective... 99% of the players and coaches never give you a straight response and veil the truth behind platitudes and cliches... they won't even disclose where an injury is in relation to a specific body part for christsake.
Good thing for guys like Bourne who can provide a glimpse into the inner machinations... otherwise, we'd be stuck talking in the same cliches that they constantly feed us with. |

Agreed. I defended Laviolette, and I still like the guy and think he's a good coach.
Snider is running the show, as crazy as it is having an 80 year old man running things he should have, cleaned house today, and handed the reigns over to Hextall. - PLindbergh31
