i do feel you on the playoff failures though. i still shudder about the thrashing the flyers doled out. it does suck to see bad mistakes made on the biggest stage. on one hand though, it is good to be a fan of a team where the standard is set so high that the season is basically irrelevant until the playoffs start. i know it doesnt erase all ills, but its better than being loyal to a franchise to which even the owner is apathetic. - stayinthefnnet
Ed Snider is like the US government. He tells you there is hope, states useless facts to justify his agenda and repeats. The sheep scream HOPE than nothing happens, so they lash out slightly only to be told there is hope again. This process repeats as needed when the sheep need to be put in check again. |

id concur that they are both delusional and off the mark at times, but if the government gave half a damn a snider does this country would be a better place |

Mike Sielski asked Berube after the game if he "has any punishment planned " for Rosehill.
Chief gave him the death stare.
"You want me to spank him? - bmeltzer[Pause] Dumb question. Get lost!"
The give-and-take with Berube is going to be verrrrrry interesting, especially when they lose.

Snider can fire and/or trade people who aren't getting the job done.
Who is being fired for shutting down the government? Who is being fired for threatening the full faith and credit of the United States of America?
Heads need to roll. Unfortunately, they won't. |

one thing i would never accuse the flyers of is only providing the bare minimum. maybe not always the brightest spenders perhaps, but the effort has always been there. and even under the best of circumstances, i know its a cliche but the stanley cup is the hardest team trophy to win. - stayinthefnnet
Bare minimum in the sense of getting a team into the playoffs. I like examples...
The Flyers buy the 250K super car only to get beat by the souped up Honda Civic in the street race.
There's a reason organizations like Detroit and New Jersey are respected. They don't just throw money out there or look at the name on the back of the jersey. They find players, most of the time players other teams don't want, who fit their team and win. It's only 4 games in the season and no question Streit will be bought out, buried or whatever before his contract expires. I'm starting to think Holmgren looks at cap geek for free agent signings. Oh look at his stats, I'm gonna sign him. |

Maybe Berube becomes an untapped genius, but I'm getting tired of hearing year after year that they just need to show effort, jam, competitiveness, intensity or another random vague adjective that means nothing. They need to play better hockey, period. Passion doesn't get added to a team overnight, in a week, a month or a couple. You either have it or you don't. They look like crap in 3rd periods because they are burned out from running around like chickens with no heads in the 1st. Good teams play smart. All the running around in the world chasing the puck accomplishes nada. - Glak18
That's all I've been saying. I keep hearing that they don't play hard enough and this quasi-mystical "compete level" is all that's missing.
Yeah, like losing on Opening Night at home to a team on the second night of a back to back is because you decided to take the night off. |

Accountability is just smoke and mirrors.
Do you know how many stupid people I drive by every day with signs asking to impeach Obama? They have no clue that changing a president will not affect one thing. Until education becomes a priority or mandatory, the country will stay the same. Last time I checked US was 14th ranked in education in the WORLD! So many stupid people that don't even realize it. |

oh okay. that i will buy into for the most part. i thought you mentioned lack of effort or overall care, which as much as i hate to defend the flyers, is never the case. however, whether these good intentions are executed wisely is certainly a matter up for debate. but then again, no team swings and never misses |

I have no idea why I'd break up G Harts and V.. leave that line.. Giroux needs a winger like V to really be effective IMO.. Mix up the other lines. Cooter and B Schenn were solid. Striet has been generally good as well. - Hextall271
Hartnell has got to go, it looks like G is getting pissed off at his clumsiness out there. Heard Philly was sniffing around Glencross. I would make that trade tomorrow to get out of Hartnell's contract. He doesnt bring anything at all right now |

You know why you keep hearing it? Because by being vague it covers up the real problems, the people really accountable. It's propaganda to buy time and the dum dums eat it up. Fans say it because they are clueless. They hear it on the radio and give other people's opinions because they don't have one of their own. Every team that loses a game, no matter the sport, can say "Oh we need better effort". So if a team wins more than it loses then they show more competitiveness? Nashville use to be one of the hardest working teams in the NHL, but they didn't win...do they need more competitiveness? No, it's just the dumbest excuse there is. |
