Well, that's what it seems the papers want.

The days of Ray Didinger, Jay Greenberg & Bill Lyon seem to be dying. Now it's all about being the next Bayless or Cowherd or Simmons.

Opinion, right or wrong, has replaced insight. Sheer force of will behind an opinion makes it so in the court of public opinion. They take a topic, and build it into a cause and mine that sucker until it's an empty vessel.

Look at Tebow. When is the last time a moderately successful back-up QB got anywhere near as much press as Tim Tebow? Bayless turned him into a cottage industry.

Now, guys like Gonzalez and Crossing Broad adhere to these precepts that being a sort of TMZ for sports is the best way to cover it. Give me Bill's method of watching the game, forming an opinion from the on ice play, adjusting that opinion as play on the ice dictates and delving into the other stuff only when it's germane to the game.

Scott Cullen on TSN on his idea for Jake Gardiner trades had this for Philly:

"Philadelphia - It seems more likely that the Flyers would want to move out a defenceman, but if there was a way to pry Sean Couturier out of there, and Gardiner could be part of the package, it would be well worth it."

- mayorofangrytown

My first thought was, if the Flyers wanted him, it'd have to be a deal built around Couturier or Brayden Schenn for him.

See...we're one of few teams that would even pretend to keep Sean Couturier on the third line.

I'd bet a paycheck that if we flipped him to Toronto, we'd get a steady dose of JVR/Couturier/Kessel for about a decade.

It's very possible. I like Gardiner, but he'd be a costly addition, and might not be a step forward, if it cost Couturier.

I say this because it's true: I know exactly where I was when Wayne Gretzky was sold/traded (depending on who you ask), so we all know that everyone can get moved.

But for all those who agree with me and all those who don't, I say this from the bottom of my heart: We only get to trade Sean Couturier once.

And I guarantee the next team that gets him, if that is the case, won't be playing him with the wingers we are. Just sayin'.

It boggles my mind that I'm seeing articles about how "the time for Couturier to step up and produce is NOW" when the kid is 20 years old. People seem to keep forgetting that. I firmly believe he is going to be an all-star at some point, but he needs more than 5 minutes to become that player.

Couturier still needs to improve his skating, IMO. Sometimes he looks like he's skating in wet cement.

Mine too although I floated Laughton and picks yesterday because of Toronto's cap issues.

It's his 3rd year. He will get his minutes. I think Berube really likes him.

To me its his first stride that needs work. Send him to that power skating coach.

I think you're right. And I like that he'll at least be able to play with Matt Read since they seemed to have had good chemistry in the past. A better third line winger on the other side would be great, which is why I am in full support of giving Raffl or McGinn a shot there.

Most teams don't have Giroux, Lacavalier, Schenn as the other three centers on the team. One of them is going to have to play wing and one is going to be the third line center. Who are you bumping on Toronto? Bozak and Khadri?

Exactly. Let's not forget we're two seasons removed from Couturier shutting down one of the best players in the NHL in the playoffs--especially on the PK.

Who has controlled the PK the past couple of seasons?

Oh, just Craig Berube.

Respectfully I disagree with you on Hartnell. In my opinion he has hands of stone this year and a matching brain as well. I love the guy and even have him in a keeper league but he just ain't getting it done and looks bad doing it.
- flyerdude17

It's almost as if the 1st lines forbidden to setup shot attempts for giroux. It is a one way street. Harts and simmer try and dig the puck out to giroux or the dmen to set them up in the slot. When hartnell actually has the picking no one is going towards the net.

The 1st line is in shambles and I have to question why berube puts Simmonds up there. If he's going to do that I'd rather him drop both those guys back with coots.

Truth. They were all insane and after the show you could just hang out with them because they had nothing to do while they sold shirts and tapes in the lot.

I see what you're saying but Read-G-Talbot is a really small line. I think they'd get pushed around too much
