Well someone will probably call for my head, but I might make this offer after the season:
Both Schenns, Hagg and Laughton to Nashville for Weber. - BiggE
Probably close to what it'd take. I'd further add that I'd probably be totally on board with it. |

Right now they think they might be able to pry Paul Statsny out of Colorado so you'd be looking at something in that range. Plus you might be stuck trying to help them with their cap issues which 1. We probably can't and 2. We definitely shouldn't. - mayorofangrytown
Well their biggest Cap issue is the guy they have buried in the AHL. And I think they're stuck with that. I shudder when I remember some of the suggestions on here that the Flyers consider him. |

Right now, you can't look at a single game against any opponent in the League and comfortably state that we can take them. - MJL
I know man, it's friggin' sad as hell. It almost makes me yearn for Carter and Richards back. ALMOST

Well I brought up Jake Gardiner yesterday because he's a puck mover that I think we could use but just to be plain, I would never call him a number one defenseman. He has a long way to go to get there. A loooooong way to go. - mayorofangrytown
And this team has a loooooong way to go so if coots for gardiner were possible do the deal. People need to start thinking this way. Maybe not a number one today but what about in 3 years? Like pietreangelo, oel, karlsson,? The trick is to identify them and not be afraid to give up assets to land them. Difficult? Yes. Impossible? Hell no. |

I'd probably pull Laughton back and throw in a 1st round pick instead and see if that would fly.

People should start thinking about agreeing to a bad deal because this team has a long way to go, and they need a puck moving defenseman? So you've identified Gardiner as a future Pietrangelo, OEL, or Karlsson?

Either way I'd do it. Having Weber on the ice 27-28 minutes per night would be huge. |

my issue with these trades now is injury. The guy gets hurt, and then what? Huge set back. The risk is there and we've seen it happen. |

Every team shares that same risk. If Chara gets injured, that kills them. If Doughty goes down, it hurts them. Keith or Seabrooke in Chicago. No team can afford to lose a top defensman to injury.

Well, sure they could trade a massive haul of assets, but does that weaken the front end too much? If it's a one for one trade, then at least you're not robbing Peter to pay Paul. - Jsaquella
Your right. 100% right. At this stage it's obvious we need to rob Peter to pay paul. I'm not saying were not going to get raped to get these pieces. I'm just wondering how bad things have to get for people to stop kidding themselves. We had all last season to see. Last 2 playoffs before that. Berube cAN scream play better team defense and better outlet pass all he wants. I'm sure lavi did same thing. It's not gonna get much better. Even if they tighten up we can't score. For every 20 games that they stink it up just puts you in a weaker trading position. Now if they turn it around and win 15 out of 20 I'll be the 1st one on here eating crow and admit I was wrong but if not at some point something major needs to be done. |

yes it hurts them, but they at least in terms of everyone else on the list other than Chara (if I am correct on where those guys came from) were homegrown talent and didn't cost what we are bandying about. I know I'm not discovering the wheel here, just that after Pronger, I'm much less enthusiastic about these kinds of deals.
Having said that, if they got Weber, I'd probably be ecstatic, so there's that. |

with our luck weber would take an arrow to the knee and sit around and talk about how he used to be an NHL defenseman |

Sure it can get much better. Without adding a single player. This team is playing well below it's talent level. Simply because it doesn't play as a team. Nobody is kidding themselves. We all know they have to upgrade the defense to get to Cup level. Everyone is aware of that. You're preaching to the choir. But Paul Holmgren can't rant what you're ranting and say, "hey, we need a #1 puck moving defenseman, so you have to trade us one!"
And playing better defense, and a better team game, will drastically help the Flyers score more.

No it's the gm job to make that decision. If he thinks so than try and mSke the move. As far as gardiner I do really like him. I haven't followed him as much as I did with voynov or subban the last few years. |

The trouble is, last year, when they tightened up and had an AHL caliber defense, they did score and win games.
During their last 15 games, they scored 46 goals, which is just over 3 goals per game and played 11 games against playoff teams in that stretch. That's what they will need to do to win games with the current roster. Keep it tight, make smart, high percentage plays and work hard.
Being a responsible defensive team and being disciplined usually leads to more scoring than less. Nobody's saying they have to be the 1995 Devils. |

I don't see how it matters how you obtained the player, in terms of losing a top defenseman to injury. It still hurts the same.

Like I said we can wait 20 games and when we suck still more people will be calling for something major to be done and well be in a weaker trading position. If not if we win 12 to 15 of the next 20 I'll be on here eatIng crow and saying I jumped the gun. I'll admit it. |

Could just be my crazy thoughts, but that game yesterday was boring.
I really dread them becoming one of those really hardcore defense first teams. Sure it may get you wins, but its boring as (frank).
I liked when they had the balls to be one of the few aggressive clubs in the league. (Chicago, Detriot, Colorado, San Jose, Oilers, Pittsburgh) |
