And if Byfuglien had Pronger's fitness, he'd last as long as Pronger. |

Sure I can. It's a part of heritage for many people in the South who still resent the "Yankees." A large part of my family on my mother's side still lives in Georgia.
So what about other teams? If a person had a parent that was stabbed and has nightmares about it, can they ask the Sabres to change their name? If a person lost their house and/or loved ones in a Hurricane, can they ask the Canes to change their name? The Devils are symbolizing a creature who's an affront to God, which could be offensive to Christians.
Can Irish people ask the Celtics to change their logo if they don't like their representation of an irish person?
I may be insensitive, but the Native Americans need to stop whining and deal with it. No one's doing it to be malicious, and they haven't brought it up for decades. It's another case of a small group of people wanting to change something that doesn't really make a difference in the end. - jmatchett383
Native Americans are just doing this for publicity.
If they weren't how does someone explain this?

I'll try and use it the next time I drop the no-no word in public. - youarewrong
Well there's a huge difference between American Indian and that word in terms of being derogatory, but hey...fell free to try it out |

The argument those groups are making is that "Redskin" is a derogatory, racist term. They're not making the claim that people called Redskins did anything malicious to them.
I just understand why they may have an issue with it...and yes, it's probably being oversensitive.

Exactly. They'll use the good old "Well, WE can because it's about us," like a certain group of people did when referring to a certain Mr. Cooper on the Philadelphia professional American football team. But yeah, they just want to make a stink about it/make money. |

Honestly, I hope that the Redskins publicly state that they are more than willing to change the team name to "Injun Savages." |

That High School is in one of the most heavily populated Native American populations in the Country. Their HS mascot, and team name is the Redskins.

The thing is, we white men Lump all American Indians into one category, where as they look at the individual tribes.
There's also many folks of American Indian decent who don;t have any issue with the name.
It's like when Italians get pissed at show like The Sopranos. Well, I'm Italian and I loved the Sopranos. |

Please don't use the term white. I'm Caucasian and I find the term "white men" to be derogatory.
See how that sounds? |

I understand where you are coming from. They have been the Redskins since 1935, all of a sudden it's an issue now? That's the part I don't understand. |

I don't disagree with this being a need.
But, I'd like that need addressed for the long haul. Not just temporarily. - johndewar
I don't think the need is for a puck moving offensive defenseman. The need is for a quality two way defenseman that can play in all situations, to replace Timonen. Byfuglien is not that player.

Eklund and his cronies. Plus, he's an NHL player, so the Flyers have interest according to the media. |

Byfuglien's skill level or offensive production isn't the issue. It's his all around lack of discipline. He doesn't play a smart game. He gambles on the offensive side too much. He lacks the little things in his game that contribute greatly to winning. I don't think he's the kind of defensman this team needs to add. - MJL
Byf's character concerns and fitness level would scare me away from overpaying but if we're being honest, Byf at 28 years old is BETTER than any defenseman currently on the Flyers roster and that includes a 38 year old timonen. |
