If Schenn amounts to nothing more than a # 4-5 guy, Burke's last move as Toronto GM would have been eating Holmgren's lunch. - PLindbergh31
I think Schenn is already a solid 2nd pairing defenseman. |

besides decision making, i don't see much more. #4-5 guy, can be very solid, if unspectacular. - isaiah520
He's a 23 year old defenseman. It's in my opinion that Dmen tend not to hit their primes til around 27. It would amaze me if this is LSchenn's max. |

Except that Byfuglien plays in all situations. The Jets are now using him on the PK, as well as the PP. He's also a 24 minute a night horse for them. - Jsaquella
Doesn't mean that he's good at it. I wouldn't label him a 2 way defenseman. He's an offensive defenseman. And is not a suitable replacement for Timonen in my opinion. I have zero interest in him. |

I love how something is a rumor because one team asks for him.
Do you know how many teams ask about other players. It happens every day. - PhillySportsGuy
Did you hear about the Sidney Crosby to every NHL team rumor? Apparently there's strong interest. |

I'd be more interested in that angle myself, for sure. But Byfuglien was the topic. I'm not married to adding him, but I'm open to it. - Jsaquella
Byfuglien's better than anything we currently have, and anything coming along the way... just by virtue of that, the idea of adding him shouldn't be dismissed too quickly.
With that said, I sure as hell wouldn't trade B Schenn or Couturier (or even Laughton) for him. |

yup, at the moment he's a #3 shutdown guy, I think. This season's also shown that he needs bigger minutes to thrive. |

I do. He has top pairing potential as a physical defender paired with a #1 defenseman. |

That's most likely (guessing) what Winnipeg would want to START negotiations. |

How about Laughton + a high pick (1st or 2nd) + a roster player? |

Cap hit too high. Simply not worth it. |

Interesting. He's played like a # 8 so far. Last on the team in ice time, and doesn't sniff PP time. |

The problem for Winnipeg is that Byfuglien is viewed so negatively around the league. Is perceived value is probably worse than his real value. |

The Nashville Predators are an offensive juggernaut.
Also, points are the be-all end-all of defenseman stats. - Pecafan Fan
after seeing the lengthy debate i deleted my post, but... obviously he's off to a slow start this season but as recently as last season he didn't look "done" to me, he is positionally very smart and he can still put up points
if he doesn't pull it together this season then yes he's done |

Well obviously the Penguins would have to retain 87.87% of his salary. |

Would he upgrade the D here? Sure, but at what price? |

Well when the Flyers get that # 1 dman, Schenn will probably be about 65 |

After a strong (relatively) rookie season, he did nothing but regress.
I thought getting traded to Philly would help him, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Not yet anyway. |

You're basing it on 4 games.
He played very well last season. Finished as an even player despite being on a TERRIBLE 5 on 5 team.
He also matched up against other top lines, so there's that too.
But what have you done for me lately, right? |

Absolutely. My two conditions were his conditioning and the cost. If it was a deal built around Read and Byfuglien, with other pieces going either way, I'd consider it.
Not giving up a key youngster for Byfuglien. |

Throw in Depres and we have a deal.
Wait, what are we giving up? Do we have to give anything?
See this is what happens when we hypothetically create hypothetical situations |

May I remind you that, the Flyers finished 20th overall?
Because a player is put in a certain spot doesn't mean that's where he should be.
There's a difference being a true #1 and being a #1 by necessity. |
