How about Laughton + a high pick (1st or 2nd) + a roster player? - jmatchett383
If the pick is a 2nd and the roster player is Mezaros or Coburn I'd probably do it. |

After a strong (relatively) rookie season, he did nothing but regress.
I thought getting traded to Philly would help him, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Not yet anyway. - Pecafan Fan
He played pretty well last year. |

May I remind you that, the Flyers finished 20th overall?
Because a player is put in a certain spot doesn't mean that's where he should be.

Absolutely. My two conditions were his conditioning and the cost. If it was a deal built around Read and Byfuglien, with other pieces going either way, I'd consider it.
Not giving up a key youngster for Byfuglien. - Jsaquella
Honestly, I'm not worried about how fat he is. He's always been that way and he's still been uber-productive and has won a Cup.
My problem is adding him to a mix of guys that are already undisciplined and inconsistent as a group. If we had a rock-solid leadership group like Chicago's, I think we could absorb a lot of the good that Buff brings, and mitigate a lot of the bad.
But Byfuglien and Hartnell on the same team would keep me up at night, for sure. |

Well the roster player has to be a defenseman, otherwise we have 9 on the roster. I'd do Meszaros, but not Coburn. If I had to do Coburn, then we're keeping Laughton. |

I said he finished even for the season despite being on a bad 5 on 5 team and matching up against top lines.
I never said he was top pairing. My argument is that, right now, he's a good 2nd pairing defenseman. |

He played very well last year. He was their best defenseman. Granted, they were a bad team, but even so, he personally played well. |

I don't give too much importance the the +/- stat. At least, not the individual +/- stat. |

I think Mez would make the deal LESS appealing to Winnipeg. I'm not joking. |

We could also agree to take Jokinen off their hands, have Rosehill break his legs so we can stash him on LTIR... is that enough of a trade inducement? |

I don't think the need is for a puck moving offensive defenseman. The need is for a quality two way defenseman that can play in all situations, to replace Timonen. Byfuglien is not that player. - MJL
This is key. There has been a lot of talk about Buff and the need for his offensive production, but he's hardly a two way defenseman, which I agree, is what the Flyers are sorely lacking. |

That'd be my secondary concern. How disciplined he would be on and off the ice in this mix.
Because he's produced a ton of points for the Jets/Thrashers hasn't gotten them into the playoff yet. |

That's because +/- has a lot to do with team play and favorable/unfavorable match ups!
I'm telling you right now that Schenn was on a bad 5 on 5 team and had unfavorable match ups |

Montreal's got a #1 in Subban, but then a bunch of number 4-5-6.
Which means a some of them are #2 and #3 by default.
Does it make you feel better if I use the terrible habs defense as an example? |

Right now means the present. And currently he's not playing anywhere close to the level of a 2nd pairing defenseman. |

Interesting, I thought towards the end of last season when he was called upon to be the man, he definitely established himself as a total beast. He's struggled early this season, but going into the season I would've said he's our #2 dman behind kimmo. I still remember his amazing 32 minute showing last season. |
