He's shown little to no progression, hence why the Leafs didn't mind seeing him go.
You guys probably felt the same way towards JVR at the time of the trade. - Pecafan Fan
Schenn's offense wasn't as good as his rookie year, but his defense was pretty damn phenomenal, despite the occasional overcommit of a big hit. |

There is, but Winnipeg actually has some very capable defensemen and good depth on their blueline. Enstrom, Hainsey, Bogosian and Mark Stuart gave them a pretty solid top five last year, and this year, with the addition of a tremendously talented rookie like Jacob Trouba, Byfuglien's two way role has actually increased. - Jsaquella
Thank f'ing god the Pens took Pouliot ahead of Trouba... |

I know. Plus, I think the best top pairings are made up of two guys who can provide a little offense. Not saying they need to be Keith/Seabrook or Shattenkirk/Pietrangelo, but they each need to be able to give a little something.
I don't think Schenn will ever be that type of player. - PhillySportsGuy
Better hope JVR doesn't become a consistent 30 goal scoring power forward, if you think Schenn is a Chris Therien clone. |

I understand what he did last year. I said he was struggling this year so far, and of course people take it to the extreme. - PLindbergh31
I think you originally said something about Schenn developing into a 4/5 defenseman to which I replied he is already a 2nd pairing defenseman. |

Chris Therien pre-lockout was a perfect compliment to Eric Desjardins, who's pretty much in the same field as Kimmo Timonen. |

Yeah...ho hum, my first NHL game as a 19 year old, I'll just step in and look like a 28 year old Norris winner. No sweat |

I felt JVR had a concussion. Stumbled a little because of the expectations he set against Boston in the playoffs but I thought he was developing fine.
Didn't like the trade. I thought we sold extremely low. Didn't like the return.
Most of my thread-mates disagree. |

They did sell low. That said, if they hadn't traded for Schenn, we would have had to endure 48 games of Kurtis Foster last year. |

Schenn has a decent shot. I think he will eventually become more of an offensive threat. |

If he becomes a great compliment to a true #1 defenseman, I will be more than happy with it. Also, if he does to Crosby what Therien did to Jagr, that helps a lot. |

They did sell low, but I like Schenn. He's got to find consistency, but to write him off at age 23 seems shortsighted. |

I didn't like the trade either. Flyers were put in a desperate spot when they swung and missed with Weber/Suter then had Mez tear his achilles in the offseason.
I don't think it's going to kill us like people think though.
At worst, we have a young top 4 defenseman for a long time. I don't think JVR is going to become an annual all star. He may have some good years, but he won't make us shake our heads like the Sharp deal. |

Can we go back to talking about other team's players that we want. That is much less depressing. |

I'd like to see him score 20-goals more than once before I'm convinced he's a threat for 30. Sure, he was on pace for 30 last season, but Patrick Marleau was on a 100-goal pace in January and ended up w/ 17. |

Flyers have had a plethora of # 1 dmen in the 40+ years they have been in existence. They will just pluck one from the # 1 D-man tree. |

True enough. By no means am I declaring the Leafs the winner of the deal at this point. |

Don't let my opinion of the trade reflect directly on Luke Schenn. I think he's a decent Defenseman. I thought and still think we should have gotten more back for JVR. The trade stinks not necessarily the player. |

You knew JVR would get off to a hot start with his new team. Once things calm down, he will revert back to his inconsistent ways. |
