Hartnell and Simmonds are similar players, get their noses dirty and score a bunch of their goals in front of the net. Giroux needs a skill guy to play with, that player is Voracek.
I would try Giroux with Simmonds, and Voracek. - PLindbergh31

After the last game im kinda surprised they didn't start Biron, even more surprised that Alain let him stay there after all those goals.
Ego got shattered today for sure. - Yosimar89

I hope the league soon figures out Bernier.. I do NOT want him to win the Vezina. I do hope that Columbus and the Flyers swapped Vezina goalies! |

I interrupt this debate to say Colorado is very fun to watch. as you were - nastyflyergirl
I very much enjoyed watching Downie mess with Chara, and Lucic blow his stack with Landeskog. Boston is easy to root against.
The Aves are a fun team. Giguère looked unbelievable tonight.
We've been out of the country for two weeks and this was the first regular season NHL game I've seen. I have to say I am sick to my stomach over the Flyers. After not making the playoffs the players made a lot of comments about being angry and fired up.
They haven't looked like an angry and determined bunch so far, at least from the highlights I could watch.
Firing of a coach, whether it's justified or not, always is a sign of a struggling team.
I am really hoping there is no knee jerk trades at this point.
If they can deal away a depth defenseman that would be OK, but this group, especially the young forwards, deserves a few years together.

The majority didn't like the Streit signing, largely based on the contract terms. I agree with that sentiment. - PLindbergh31
The majority made that decision before he played a single game. I don't have any issues with the contract.

me neither as the cap will increase each year.
BTW it could be worse, we could be Rangers fans! 15-2 over 2 games?? At least our games were close! |

Took him a while in the preseason, but the real story I am happy about so far is Mason. He's been solid every start IMO. I am hoping the team can start to give him more help than Tuesday, and if so, we're in business. Streit has been good so far IMO. He's def not the reason for a slow start. |

They have been struggling. It's been really disheartening. I do hope Berube is able to make the changes he's talking about, because he seems to firmly grasp that he can't coach a style and system that doesn't fit his roster.
The worrisome thing is, that they don't seem to be in the shape he wants them to be in. |

That's where I'm confused. How is a team that was coached to play a high tempo aggressive offensive system not in game shape? |

I agree about G & V, but I would put Simmonds back with Lecavalier since they looked decent together early on in preseason.
Then Simmonds got sick. |

One theory is that they didn't play enough in the pre-season. They kept 50-60 guys around for a long time, perhaps that glut caused drills to be hard to run and kept them from doing more 5 on 5 "scrimmage" time practices and game situations.
Berube talked about it in ASF's column, saying they didn't get enough good skating in during camp, not that they were out of shape. |
