Its because they are playing like a bunch of farmers.
In an attempt to make them more defensively responsible, I see very little creativity out there.
I have to let this thing go, its a personal issue I have, but just hate these (frank)ing restrictive defensive systems. Its like they went from run and gun, to complete shut down.
They have no speed to their game. Not a fan personally, but whatever. |

Great energy that period. Really don't deserve to be down 1-0. But again, a failed clear bit them in the ass. Really like how they played. Solid in all 3 zones. And I don't now if anyone caught what Coatsey said about the first forechecker goes in aggressive. But the 2nd forward only goes if he thinks he can get there. That's how you have to play, and one of the biggest gripes I've had with the past. That's smart aggressive Hockey. Instead of reckless aggressive hockey. |

I disagree.
What do you want? More offense? Shove offense down the throats of the opponents? We cry for a system change toward more organization, discipline, and defense, with less reckless abandon offense. We fire the coach because of this.
We finally get a more suitable system of which is organized and disciplined, and you say that it's boring to watch.
Wat - Giroux_Is_God
It's not boring to watch. And it's definitely not a restrictive defensive system. Not even close. They generated 16 shots in that period. Just need to get more traffic and rebound opportunities.

They played better against Florida than they did against Montreal, Carolina and the 3rd period against the Leafs. Theyre playing better tonight than they did against Florida. At least they are moving in the right direction and they seem to be playing with some drive and emotion. |

Well, just for the poops and giggles, while I at the end agreed that Lava should go, I wasnt screaming for a big system change.
Its seems they went from maybe too aggressive, to now completely the opposite. I see zero speed to their game, and might as well be watching the worm farm that Harry/Llyod had.
I personally dont believe you have to do a complete 180, to just teach guys how to pay attention defensively. Its boring hockey to me, but I'll leave it at this as I see it turning into a debate. |

they were a hair off scoring 2-3 times
the goal against was a fluky bounce

all from the outside with no traffic in front. when they get a good chance they pass it and then get no shot. frustrating to watch. you would think if you are having trouble scoring you go back to crashing the net and throwing EVERYTHING at it - dillpx183
They still have some things to work on. It's going to be a process. The areas you mention is part of what they have to improve on. |

well, not all. had 4 great opportunities. 2 on 1 toe save, 2 on 1 no shot, penalty shot flub, an lecavalier from the bottom of the circle and he hit patrick r...i mean greiss, right in the pants.
i like the skating, effort, and pressure. would like to see more precision and a little quicker all around. good step in the right direction.
flukey (frank)ing bullpoop ends up in our net. schenn needs to stop trying to block pucks. |

Meh, all I see is farmer play. Perimeter shots, and north/south hockey.
Just bored with it I suppose. Really wish these guys didnt need a coaching change to learn how to back-check and pay attention to their assignments on D. Miss the Lava fire. Miss the aggressive.
Im just a crazy fool though, agreed to want Lava gone b/c they needed a change, but it wasnt because of the system. |

And I'm willing to bet half of those shots were decent chances.
Couple muscle wraparounds from Cooter, there were a few shots from the points with bodies in front, a breakaway, and a few nice one timers from the left or right hashes.
Schenn got stoned. That was a great save.
The Flyers, in my opinion, don't deserve to "lose" this period. |

Schenn was really at the net because that's where his check was. I don't think he was really even trying to block the shot.

Frankly, the fact that you actually think they played this slow and view Chief's changes as a "full 180" concern me. |

I think these guys just need some time to play with each other.
B Schenn and Vinnie are showing some creativity, Read too.
I thought Giroux nearly took over the period.
The team also looked like a five man group more then I have seen in the last year.
No big gaps. Not always looking for the home run pass.
I kind of like it.
