He's got money. I think his ego might be kinda bruised with regard to the Flyers. But right now, I'd welcome him back. He can be our Teemu Selanne. - jmatchett383
I kind of get the feeling that Homer's going to do this to Kimmo next summer... |

Got to dump Mez, Coburn or Grossman first. Heard Edmonton is looking for a Dman, maybe they would take Coburn off our hands. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
I thought they already tried that |

I'm not liking second-guessing the coach this early, but this is how I'd set up my lineup. I guess I'm second-guessing the GM, too, since I'd have McGinn up making room for Cou2rier and Read.
19 Scott Hartnell - 28 Claude Giroux - 93 Jakub Voracek
10 Brayden Schenn - 40 Vincent Lecavalier - 17 Wayne Simmonds
15 Tye McGinn - 14 Sean Couturier - 24 Matt Read
25 Max Talbot - 18 Adam Hall - 36 Zac Rinaldo
44 Kimmo Timonen - 22 Luke Schenn
32 Mark Streit - 5 Braydon Coburn
26 Erik Gustafsson - 41 Andrej Meszaros
35 Steve Mason
- Flyskippy[29 Ray Emery]
Scratches: 37 Jay Rosehill (AHL), 8 Nicklas Grossmann (healthy), Kris Newbury (healthy), Hal Gill (healthy), Chris Pronger (LTIR, post-concussion syndrome).
-----
I totally hate how the defense could be great or terrible depending on health (Timonen, Meszy) or if they put on their thinking caps that night (Coburn, Schenn, Gus).
For the most part I think Schenn has been pretty reliable but he does have those moments like in Carolina every once in a while |

I don't want to "dump" any of our defensemen or have them "taken off our hands." The defense, while not the top talent in the league, is not bad. It's more than competent despite its shortcomings. When the forwards are darting up ice as soon as the D gets the puck, or take their time backchecking and don't cover their points in the D zone, then the defense looks porous.
Also, we don't NEED to make any changes if Gagne comes back on the super cheap. |

I'm so glad you're not the coach. I need more Rosehill, and hopefully he's in a really bad mood tonight. |

If I had my druthers, the D-corps would look like this:
44 Kimmo Timonen - 5 Braydon Coburn
26 Erik Gustafsson - 22 Luke Schenn
8 Niklas Grossmann - 41 Andrei Meszaros
Mobility, size and puck-moving on every line. Dress Streit as a forward (or 7th D) and play the heck out of him on the PP. |

I don't have a problem with Schenn, in general -- just no more trying to clear the puck in the middle. Use. The. Boards. |

just friggin put jake with giroux already and let them reestablish their chemistry
im getting the feeling its time for him to work his weird magic with another group. he always seems to come out of nowhere and make an effective line.
plus he's starting to annoy me |

Needs to be done. Coburn is a turnover machine, he can't pass and is often caught out of position. Timonen is done after this season and his usefulness is lowered after every season. We need to start getting those young guys like Gus some experience. Hell last season the second Coburn got injured the Flyers started winning games. The D core played better with Manning, Lauridsen, Gus than with Coburn Mez and Grossman in the lineup. |

most of the people saying anything negative about berube are the same uninformed dopes that keep parroting lines about how "bad the goaltending is in philly". if he sucks he sucks but i think it's way too early to assess anything yet. i'm waiting for a big trade but i can't think of anybody playing well enough for another team to want to give up anybody good in return.
one other thing i was wondering. can guys at the nhl level really improve skating that much? i mean they say you can't teach speed but i often hear about guys working on skating. if this is something that can be done why would anybody not do it or why wouldn't every team insist players do it? I'm fine with the Cheif, I think too much is made of his lack of head coaching experience and pedigree.
While Fred Shero had a ton of minor league coaching experience, the Rangers had passed on him for head coach on multiple occasions, nor did any other NHL team ever seriously consider him as well.
Pat Quinn was only a couple of years removed from being an active player when he took over the Flyers late in the 78-79 season. All he did the following year was coach them to a 35 game unbeaten streak, 118 points, and a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals (Frank you Leon Stickle!!)
While Mike Keenan had been successful at every level he had coached, at 34 years of age, most "experts" thought him to be too young and too inexperienced to succeed at the NHL level.
With all that being said, I am more than willing to give Berube a fair shake. I'm certainly fine with what he seems to be trying to accomplish so far. - BiggE

Would definitely like to see Gus get into the lineup somehow. I guess it's totally inevitable that someone on the back end gets injured. I'm surprised it hasn't already happened actually |

I agree with you on Berube.
And this is just my uninformed opinion, but I think the skating oriented practices might be designed more to send the message that the players need to move their feet more.....not necessarily that it would improve their skating per se. I think there comes a point where "you are what you are". |

Yea I hate people who say someone will be a bad GM or Coach because they were Goons in their time. Just because they don't have the skill to be a great player doesn't mean they don't know the game. |

Tonight we should start to see what the difference between the chief and lava is. I know it will take time, but his style should start to show. What I like is I have hope for the Flyers again. After the terrible preseason I really had no hope for this team, but it's up from here. Two things I'm looking forward to:
1. The Flyers making the playoffs and all the haters sucking it.
2. Both goalies having a great season, again so all the people hating can suck it. |

I like this line up, especially the forwards.
I would have brought Gags back for the third line, especially if Raffl wasn't ready for that third line wing spot.
Talbot had some goal scoring mojo with Couts two seasons ago, but he is a better fit for the 4th line/PK role.
Not sure I want G-SS-NN out of the line up, but I do want to see Gusty get a shot.

I look at it this way, he clearly knows something how else would he have stayed in the league for as long as he did. |
