Could be OB.
But that doesn't make Snider the devil.
Right now they are clearly rebuilding.
If they trade any youth for aging vets, or trade draft picks for vets I will be very upset.
The loss of the two first rounders in 09 and 10 in the Pronger deal is coming home to roost.
Those two players likely would be contributing on their entry level deals.
Not to rehash the whole debate, but I don't want to see them trade any more draft picks at this time. I'm guessing you would agree. - Marc D
If they are clearly rebuilding why did they sign Mark Streit? |

Took me a minute to see what you did to that.
I'd take Richards back. Carter not so much.
I'd rather a new direction to the team. I'm even open to seeing what sort of returns we could get for Giroux. |

This team isn't rebuilding like other teams. It's rebuilding Philly style. The Streit signing I don't understand at all. |

Philly's rebuild = young core + add in vets = hope for the best and maybe they will make the playoffs. |

Well the GM thought correctly they needed a puck mover in the back, and rather then trade 3 top assets for a Yandle type he elected to go the FA route.
Not sure I agree with it, but it was damn sure better then trading away Couts plus another roster player plus a first rounder.
I don't agree with the Vinnie thing either, when they needed a top 6 winger more then a 2nd center. I would have given B Schenn and Couts the center spots and looked for a winger. Instead they went for the best UFA available and hope to convert Schenn to wing.
I understand the moves.
I think the struggles so far show they are not 1-2 guys away from contending.
Signing Streit and Vinnie does not bring them a cup.
Clearly they should now see it is going to be a rebuilding team.
Keep the picks and the youth at this point. |

I don't like Schenn at all, but he's been really the only player that's been noticeable throughout the season so far. - Flyersgod
I think I would rather have the property brothers than the Schenn Bros |

Presser might be more enjoying than the games. Are the Flyers fans getting more apathetic towards their team? The boards weren't very lively last night. |

Bill touched on it, I've been screaming about it, and with the insertion of Erik Gustafsson and Michael Raffl, the Flyers are doing it and will, I have a feeling, find more of it:
It's the speed. The speed in which they move and think.
They're on the right track, now -- and this season isn't lost, yet, once these guys realize that it wasn't the "compete level" and whatever.
I'm saying it right now: This team will recover from this HORRIFIC start if they simply cut the cord with the players who don't think quickly enough and move well enough, whose hockey IQ is lacking.
I can see it, plain as day. Get what you can for Wayne Simmonds -- and it should be a nice piece -- move Scott Hartnell down in the lineup, keep Erik Gustafsson in the lineup, keep Tye McGinn in the lineup, keep Michael Raffl in the lineup.
The lineup should look like this:
McGinn-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Lecavalier-RW with speed/hockey sense
Hartnell-Couturier-Read
Raffl-Talbot-Hall/Rinaldo
Timonen-Schenn
Grossmann-Coburn
Streit-Gustafsson (in protected minutes)
This team isn't dead yet -- they just need to continue to insert youth/skill whenever the opportunity presents itself, NEVER dress Jay Rosehill, limit Rinaldo's minutes, say goodbye to Andrej Meszaros as a Top 6 player. |

Which wouldn't be terrible if they didn't give such long contracts to the aging vets.
Roughly 1/6th of the cap tied up in Streit and Vinny.
21.2 million spent on players over 32.
Not saying its a bad way to do it or not. Just wanted to look up the numbers. |

They should get rid of Holmgren right now. How this should have been handled is when Laviolette was fired, Hextall should have replaced Holmgren. Now when Hextall takes over, he already has a coach in place that he didn't hire.
There is no way Holmgren should be allowed to make save his job panic trades.
This JVR trade right now looks so bad it's not funny. |

I've found the Flyers to be boring as crap the last 3 years. I struggle to actually watch the game instead of hitting the spin button on my slots app on my phone. |

I agree. We had JVR's value much higher than L. Schenn. Homer did well for a few years. I'm over it now.
Regardless of what they do, I'll still try to watch and cheer for them. |

because he, (the GM), unvalued what Matt Carle brought to the "quick moving attacking" system they used to play, now they have a different system & a player that was probably more geared to the other coaches system, thats the "changing the game plan" thing again & again.
Bill is right & I've said that before, a lack of identity is prevalent because of the contrasting styles of the coaches they employ, & the players you acquire should be strong "pieces" in the system you wish to use, ie: identity
they are not disorganized solely because of the players, the top has failed to realize a system & identity for what type of team & players that will fit the criteria. |

I actually like L. Schenn. Just because the fans have JVR's value high doesn't mean every GM does. |

because handing out 5 million dollar a season contracts to past-their-prime players is in the team charter. it's required. |

No he was aggravated during the whole presser, he has no patience for when this thing goes sour as well as they have no clue what they are doing, they switch systems, coaches with the same players, they really do have dartboard management & it shows, and he probably knows it & is disgusted & nasty & just pay your tickets & etc etc. |

Street and Vinny were team captains. Don't you think Holmgren was trying to add some much needed leadership to this team? Overpaying and signing for too many years is just the Flyer's way. Guess that's why players love to play for this team. |
