One more Concussion or one more leg injury and Grossman retires. He either won't be able to spell his name or he will need a sundial to get from one zone to another. - Flyers_01
I damn near spit out my coffee...thanks |

He's got more goals than most of the forwards on this team. And Mesz got scratched in favor of Gus last night. And L Schenn is 23. We saw last year he's got the tools. As for what's off this year, isn't that the 60 million dollar question? - wolfhounds
No clue. He looks like a different player this year. Timonen looks basically shot as well. |

Gustafsson played very well last night, and should have been playing from the start of the season. - PLindbergh31
Yup. We'll see who gets scratched for Gus on Tuesday. |

No one seriously knows HOW much input the "old man" has, but he wasn't quiet during the presser, he was pissed, imagine how pissed he is behind closed doors, & you think he has no or very little input? - puckhead17
I'm sure he has plenty of input, but it's the still the GMs responsibility. If your boss tells you to do something stupid and you do it, you're the idiot. |

Bill touched on it, I've been screaming about it, and with the insertion of Erik Gustafsson and Michael Raffl, the Flyers are doing it and will, I have a feeling, find more of it:
It's the speed. The speed in which they move and think.
They're on the right track, now -- and this season isn't lost, yet, once these guys realize that it wasn't the "compete level" and whatever.
I'm saying it right now: This team will recover from this HORRIFIC start if they simply cut the cord with the players who don't think quickly enough and move well enough, whose hockey IQ is lacking.
I can see it, plain as day. Get what you can for Wayne Simmonds -- and it should be a nice piece -- move Scott Hartnell down in the lineup, keep Erik Gustafsson in the lineup, keep Tye McGinn in the lineup, keep Michael Raffl in the lineup.
The lineup should look like this:
McGinn-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Lecavalier-RW with speed/hockey sense
Hartnell-Couturier-Read
Raffl-Talbot-Hall/Rinaldo
Timonen-Schenn
Grossmann-Coburn
Streit-Gustafsson (in protected minutes)
This team isn't dead yet -- they just need to continue to insert youth/skill whenever the opportunity presents itself, NEVER dress Jay Rosehill, limit Rinaldo's minutes, say goodbye to Andrej Meszaros as a Top 6 player. - AllInForFlyers
for schenn's development and to better complement what this team needs, i'd put schenn at C and vinny on the wing.
there are some downsides to a move like this, but schenn is better when he's more involved and handling the puck more. he also plays in the dirty areas...one of the reasons he looks more of a point producer than couts will be at this point. in a better puck support system like they are employing under berube, i'm also less worried about D responsibility w/ schenn as well.
vinny is one of the few forwards we have who is a + shooter and he doesn't skate as well as i remember. not that he has played poorly or that he wouldn't be an asset at the dot, but i think he could help G, who needs a shooter to feed.
just kicking around ideas...

I think you're discounting the "boss" part of your scenario above.
For most people in most situations, if you boss tells you to do something and you don't do it, you're going to have a problem. |

what's Vinny 6'4"? he looks taller & has a lot of reach, (I bet he could reach for his paycheck from the ice)
sorry I had to

i'm glad raffl and mcginn played well last night, but i'm surprised that someone who spends as much time analyzing this lineup as you do would think that a couple of phantoms with potential would be the answer. |

They should get rid of Holmgren right now. How this should have been handled is when Laviolette was fired, Hextall should have replaced Holmgren. Now when Hextall takes over, he already has a coach in place that he didn't hire.
There is no way Holmgren should be allowed to make save his job panic trades.
This JVR trade right now looks so bad it's not funny. - PLindbergh31
i'm done w/ homer. great start to his tenure, but the magic is long gone and i look at where we were right before they made the richie/carter trades and i don't see the re-tool having worked out. too much talent has left this town for the return and there are still so many festering sores personnel-wise...and that is directly related to the org philosophy. time for a change. |

in bold, why? because of the complete switch from one coaches style to a different coach & different style?
That can't help anyone's game.
and your forgetting what he brought last year when the other 5 D men were hurt, he was solid. - puckhead17

It's tough right now for sure.
I think we need to give them at least 10 games with the new coach to judge them.
I go back , like someone pointed out, to those all important meaningless wins at the end of last season. Like the previous person said it cost us top 5 pick and basically wasted camp and 3 games with Lavi. I wish the people that defended those wins were speaking up now. Water under the bridge I guess.
I would say the following players have to be the core of this team..Giroux, Voracek, B Schenn, Laughton and Morin. They are the only players I don't move, sit, send down or otherwise. I love Kimmo, I am not sure why he is on the ice over Mez.
Had more to say but work wants me to work. |

I'm one of Holmgren's biggest critics, but the Bryzgalov move was 95% Snider. There is a lot to blame Holmgren for, but Bryzgalov isn't one of them.

I'm with you. Holmgren has done some nice things, I'm not saying he's been incompetent. But it's time to move on. |

Best thing for this franchise would be to trade off any older talent for picks/younger player and get a low pick.
Worst thing would be to make panic trades and deal picks/players for mediocre talent that plays good enough to be middle of the pack...thus screwing us out of excellent talent in the draft. |

Not exactly. But Snider was the driving force behind Bryzgalov. After the goaltender carousel in the series against Boston, Snider came out and proclaimed never again. |

Snider, the owner and boss of this franchise from Day 1, telling his GM to do something, doesn't make said GM an "empty suit". |

Could've solved that by firing Laviolette as well. My feeling is that there was pressure to solve it but the direction it went was Holmgren's.
I'm not giving Holmgren a pass unless either he or Holmgren say's it wasn't his decision. Snider has come out and said that he doesn't interfere with his GM. |

Snider was force behind Flyers chasing goalie Bryzgalov
"It had to be done," Snider told the Daily News, just after arriving here for tonight's NHL Awards show at The Palms Casino and Resort. "I was part of making it happen. It was hard to sit there and watch the Stanley Cup final, knowing what [Tim] Thomas was doing for Boston."

no question there. what i don't like is that snider is quoted as saying "he took the lead" in getting bryz here and then denying it when they bought out the guy. the question remains though, did they have to trade for bryz in a buyers mkt? could they not have leveraged vokoun to bid down the price? both were viewed in a similar light, but i guess it doesn't matter now...it does show how frivolous they can be in handling their business. |
