Eakins is going to get canned by the 25 game mark if he does not start using his talented players better. Sitting Yakupov over Will Acton, Ryan Smith etc is very inefficient. You are going to piss Yak off so bad you never see the best of him. Trade or KHL is on the horizon because Yak won't sit for long.
Eakins is mishandling this team while he tries to dictate that he is boss, what a jerk. In the NHL with guaranteed salaries this is not how to motivate millionaires, coaches lose! |

"One day after Oates' positive power talk during practice, the Capitals scored three goals in less than four minutes of the second period en route to a 4-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night."
Yeah, I'm sure it was because of his "power talk" and not the fact that the Oilers goaltending has been absolute sh1t this year
I wonder if Oates cried about Hurtl's goal during his power talk. - laughs2907

Play Rimmer. Because his name is Rimmer. Bring up Bunz too. The G depth chart would read:
Bunz/Rimmer
win - TheTaoOfSemenko
Trade for Dumba, and give him #55 so we can all call him Dumba55

Ya the power talk....that did it...
Never mind that they were outplayed, out shot, out hit, had more giveaways, less takeaways, and still won....they were 2/3 on the pp which definitely had an impact.
Fact is we have outplayed the other team the majority of nights this year yet have failed to get w's. Get some better goaltending and our start is much much different. |

For the second game in a row, Nail Yakupov was left in the press box to watch at least four or five guys that no one has ever heard of suit up for the Oilers.
Does this seem ludicrous to anyone else?
I know the kid has his share of flaws in his game, but I am a firm believer that the only way for a young player to work those flaws out is to play.
And while Yakupov has been saying a lot of the right type of things, I do believe the Oilers will have a Nikita Filatov-type of situation on their hands soon.
Young, talented players, who know they are pretty damn good and who have a good chance at playing in an Olympic Games in their home country don’t just sit around and watch games. If the Oilers don’t find a better use for Yakupov, you better believe there will be a trade demand followed by a jump to the KHL if this situation isn’t fixed soon.
So with that in mind, why not trade him before this thing blows up and Yakupov isn’t worth what he is now – and believe me it’s going to in about three weeks or less.
To Edmonton- Lack, Jensen, Higgins and a 1st rd pick
For
To Vancouver- Yakupov
Rational
Now if the Oilers would prefer, Booth or Kassian could be substituted for Higgins and/or Gaunce for Jensen that is also an option.
Yakupov would slot in nicely and help the Canucks with the offence they need. He also helps add a young player to the team and gives Vancouver another game breaker.
For the Oilers, it’s gotten to the point where people are taking out ads on Kijiji find a goalie. Eddie Lack helps them with that problem and gives them a goalie to build their young team around. Higgins is the prototypical Dallas Eakins type of player – by that I mean he will play more than Yakupov because of his defence. Lastly, Jensen, while not in Yakupov’s league, replaces the young winger in the system. He also adds some size down the road to the Oilers top-nine.
So what do you think?
Oilers fans?
Canucks fans?
Do we have a deal?
That’s a wrap
Ian - AdamFrench
Not a bad offer but Lack is still unproven and the Oil would not likely trade him within their own division. |

I think Dubnyk and LaBarbara are best friends or something... I think that's why LaBarbara came here in the first place. I'd say they're playing grab ass with each other instead of taking it seriously. - laughs2907
This really is something that needs to be looked at. Labarbara was suppose to be able to motivate Dubnyk, but as of now that isn't happening. |

The Oil can't trade for a goalie, not when their team D is this bad anyway. I'd be adding on the back end and sticking with Dooby if I were them. It's realistic and it could work. - The-O-G
How is it our defense's fault that our goalies allow 4 goals on 20 shots? Or 6 on 26 |

Acton and Smyth have played better than Yak though. Plus what are we going to do play Yak as 4th line center over Acton?
Eakins was right, there are 4 wingers playing better than Yak that he needs to beat out. Until those guys have bad games Yak is sitting. Although I suspect they find a way to play Yak tonight. |

Goal #1 could be largely attributed to J Schultz. He was attempting to leave the zone too early and left his man alone in behind him. I know what you're getting at as it would be nice for once for our goalie to come up with a big save in that instance. But we could probably attribute at least 1/3 of the goals this year to weak goaltending. Get rid of the soft goals and we get a lot more wins and a lot more confidence. |

Or RNH for fumbling it, and you know I would usually agree except the shot was weak. I also think Labarbra had other times that if the puck was on net would've went in. He looked bad. |

Ya exactly. It's a combination of bad goals and bad defense I think. I'm not try to bash the Oilers but their back end is brutal.
Petry, N. Schultz, Jeff Shultz, Belov.......not saying they are awful but overall its a pretty bad group.
I think the Oilers would be better off investing in defence than they would goaltending because it needs to be there first in order for any tender to be successful IMO. |

Petty has been good. Jultz is offense first and needs a better partner. Smid needs to be much better and so far Ference has been OK but not what we need. We have puck movers. We need some one to shut down the goal crease. |
