so berube scratched mez because he "didn't see enough" from him... - isaiah520
Shhhh...that would be way too close to what I said, and not close enough to "his game's been getting better and better since training camp and he didn't deserve to be scratched."
And we can't have that.

So when a GM acquires a player via trade or FA that has an injury history, and said player gets injured that's no one's fault? It's just bad luck I guess. - PLindbergh31
It seems to me, under the loose parameters that're used, that most players (if not all) have an injury history. |

Do we think that the late season winning streak which took the Flyers out of the running for Seth Jones was the reason Lavi got a 3 game extension? - Flyers_01
The important thing to remember is that, before Lavi is going to be fired, the team will make a trade. |

You can make that leap if you want, but a Coach has to say something. It's been pretty clear that Meszaros is not in the team's future plans, and that they were trying to trade him. And they were trying to showcase him and show the League that he was healthy. While Gustafsson is in the team's future plans as of right now. It was also clear that Meszaros game was improving as the Season went along, as he played poorly early on in the pre season. And his game was steadily improving. That does mean that his play was at the level it was in the past. But it was also clear that Meszaros was not the defenseman that was playing the last effectively on the team. As other defenseman such as Luke Schenn were playing worse. but again, Luke Schenn is in the future plans, while Meszaros is not. |

That works for me, though one thing I'd like to see is Couturier keep the same wingers for 5-7 games, if that's possible.
Hopefully, they start scoring tonight. Scoring some goals would make things feel slightly different, and the Flyers do catch a break with Alexander Edler being out.

Works offensively. Doesn't work defensively. |

Canucks have been playing like crap the last 2 games. I think this will be a close, high-scoring affair. I want my Canucks to win but would like to see Giroux get some points for my fantasy pool! |

Well if you disagree, explain this to me. You state that Meszaros can no longer play. If that's the case, why was Meszaros in the lineup, and why was Gustafsson scratched for 5 games? |

Perhaps Meszaros was being showcased for a trade. Gustafsson played very well in his first game in Detroit, and should have been in the lineup to start the season.
If players were being sat based on merit of play thus far, L. Schenn would be scratched before Meszaros would. But, with JVR going bananas in Toronto, scratching Schenn doesn't play well. |

There are 4 million reasons why, as in his salary.
Do you know how bad you have to be playing to be a healthy scratch as a veteran defenseman on the last year of your contract, in a league where defensemen who are supposedly able to play can command premiums from contending teams?
That's how bad Andrej Meszaros was playing.

I think there is a trade to be had with the Oilers based in the current situations for both teams. I am just not sure what exact pieces close it.

I don't know.
"Hi, Oil Tycoons...yeah, I was wondering if you'd like to trade last year's #1 overall pick and a defenseman for a guy who has top-line talent but has been injured recently and a top-4 defenseman. We can probably get that player with injury concerns to waive his NMC to move to the vast wastes of Northern Alberta. Hello? hello?" |

Absolutely, those two should be trading partners. The fit for those two teams is incredible.
They just have to swallow hard and do a deal.

Minor correction : Salary is 5.5. Cap Hit is 4. That is another reason why they haven't been able to trade him. |

Ha! Yeah. At that number, that makes it even more so, why the Flyers want the guy to be able to play.
If he was doing ANYTHING to help the team as a whole, he'd be in the lineup.

Rotoworld :
Daniel Briere will start Tuesday's game in Winnipeg on the fourth line.
"I can't let it worry me. Things change fast," he said. "All four lines have been chipping in and I know that wherever I'm slotted, I have to respond." Briere has one assist in five games this season and his helper was picked up on Max Pacioretty's empty-net marker versus Edmonton.
---------------------------------------
It won't last but it's nice to see Briere on the fourth line after he forced the Flyers to buy him out. |
