Your call for rational commonsense is OVERRULED! - wolfhounds
But that's overlooking the obvious: The Flyers are the ones who aren't patient.
I mean, let's be honest: Vincent Lecavalier and Mark Streit mean they aren't being patient. Because a patient team would've let Schenn and Couturier battle it out for 2C/3C, and told Peter Laviolette to get over it and give Tye McGinn a chance.
They're going to do something. They always do. Whether it's big or small, bad or good, they're going to do something.

Dreger on breaking news I believe... Dreger on player evaluations? Unless it's from Homer/Hexy/Pryor or Snider's mouths, I wouldn't take it too seriously. - Tomahawk
Fair. But obviously he didn't just throw that out there. He heard it from somewhere. Schenn has been terrible this year, but so has everyone else for the most part. |

To get Yakupov from Edmonton its going to cost something like Simmonds. Coburn, Laughton and a 2nd. Teams arent going to move highly talented 20 year olds taken 1st overall on the cheap - BiggE
Try BSchenn/Couturier, Coburn and a 1st-rounder (or two). |

That's why I'd prefer they try and trade for Eberle.
If they want more than Simmonds and Grossmann then say no thanks. Edmonton may be a bit desperate to change up the mix on their team. |

There's nothing to gain by anybody within the front office of dropping that nugget directly into Dreger's lap... it throws the player and the GM under the bus, and negatively impacts Schenn's perceived value around the league.
And before anybody suggests Hexy... I really doubt he's that Machiavellian. |

Flyers moved a young 2nd overall power forward on the cheap so it's possible. |

Do you buy the argument that Schenn has had less ice time because the Flyers have been playing from behind most of the season? - MBFlyerfan
I only partially buy it. When Flyers played from ahead almost all of game against Florida, Schenn still only played 14:16.

Somewhat. His ice time indicates he's the Flyers 6th dman. Schenn is pretty limited offensively, so that does make some sense. Flyers also have been shorthanded a ton, so when you factor in his PK minutes he shouldn't be last in total icetime. |

Somebody said something, but you're right: It makes no sense why anybody connected to the Flyers would.
That entire scenario is just...bizarre. It truly makes no sense, based on how Schenn played last year and when that comment was allegedly made, given how the rest of the team was playing.
It just...that was just bizarre.

If moves are going to be made I'd like to see the flyers get players for giroux to play with on the top line.
We lack a dominating top line. |

Yup, can't argue with it. That being said, they haven't traded any of the kids so far, so let's hope they make a good, smart deal and don't trade a bunch of young players with potential for a different young player like Yakupov. That would make my head explode... |

Homer would only do that if he was looking to be fired immediately after, if he was so sick of the job and this organization that he wanted to give it a big F U before he left. |

Soooo - my two favorite teams tonight. It's early in the year for both teams, 77 games to go...relax, the talent is there. It'll come out sooner than later. |

I have never had anyone associated with the Flyers tell me something negative -- on or off-record -- about Luke Schenn. In fact, last season, many thought he was one of the few bright spots of the season.
That said, I don't completely buy Chief's explanation for Schenn's greatly reduced ice time this year. As I noted above, even in the one game (Florida) where the Flyers played from ahead all night, he still only got 14:16 of ice time. It seems clear that Berube has more confidence in Coburn and Grossmann to be his main shutdown D right now.
L. Schenn has struggled in about 4 of the 6 games so far. So although Meszaros was the first guy to get scratched, number 22 has to elevate his game a bit to start getting closer to his ice time from last season.

I gotta say, a lot of Flyers fans frustrate the hell out of me. Let's female dog about the team not being patient and trading away young players but yet throw every young player's names out there in so called trade proposals. JVR was the whipping boy the moment he went back to UNH but yet people moan that he was traded. Now onto Homer. He took the worse team in hockey and rebuilt it quickly. Yes, they are down right now but once he traded frick and frack, no matter what we want to say, the team was in a bit of a rebuild. So let the rebuild play out with the young guys developing. Yes, he has made mistakes and all GM's do and there may be questions about the perception of chasing last year's cup but the last thing I want to see happen is the team change directions yet AGAIN. I'd sooner see them continue to build around this core group. just my .02 cents - nastyflyergirl

Yeah, company men don't usually play it like that... Hexy knows that he's looking at a lifetime role in Flyers management if he doesn't shoot himself in the foot. And it's not like Homer needs a nudge over the edge right now... he's pretty much over the cliff without a lifeline at this point. |

Kimmo's average time is down quite a bit as well, right?
All I know...injuries happen; L Schenn is 23 with a lot of potential; he was solid last year; perhaps like Giroux his confidence is suffering (for some reason); with an injury or 2 (we lost 2 forwards in 1 game) Luke is playing greater than 20 minutes per game again. |

Schenn might be one of the guys who they mentioned are not in adequate "skating shape"... or he could have a minor injury... or it could be the dearth of decent ES pairing options... so hard to say. |

Truthfully? I just am not worried about Luke Schenn. I'm just not.
Until this team starts scoring goals...what else could possibly be more important than that right now?
They're 29th in the league in goals scored right now. One team, Dallas, has played two fewer games and still has one more goal scored.
The defense, while not beautiful, has been good enough to win or get a point against Phoenix and Toronto. Carolina took it to them a bit more, but at the same time, the Flyers still only conceded two goals against in that game.
It's the offense. Our offensive futility through these first six games has been so horrific, so ridiculous, that I truly believe people aren't talking about it enough -- Mark Streit's been a whipping boy, Laviolette, Homer, the defense.
But it's the offense. It's beyond ridiculous, what the lack of goal-scoring is doing to this team.

Come on NFG, we all know that the JvR for fat Schenn trade is going to end up one more lopsided then the Neal for Gogo deal.
In all honesty I like Homer more then most on here, but would love the team to embrace the fact that they are rebuilding. Which to me means no 4-5 year deals for FA vets over 30, and keeping all their draft picks, and trying to get more draft picks and prospects if possible.
