I'm glad that the always brilliant Hockeybuzz.com community can reach a consensus that Fleury is doing good because of his Eminem pills, and not because of:
A) Absence of the most defensively irresponsible Norris candidate in years;
B) Presence of Jacques Martin as a defensively-minded assistant coach; and
C) Renewed focus of entire team on actual team defense in their own zone (for most of the games so far at least, Florida excluded).
Now I'll just sit back and wait for all the out-of-town hockey gods to tell me I'm full of crap. - Kineada
Definitely agree the team defense has helped and the emphasis on defense as well has been big reason for the great start and good play in goal by Fleury. The pill comment was a joke. Gesh.
Also, since people are from a different city means they don't know anything? Hmm that is interesting. |

I'm waiting for clarification because i don't think everyone who understands hockey is from Freedom, PA. I could be wrong...
But I do agree with him. The changes to the system are probably a very big reason why they don't just assume Fleury will forget how to play hockey in April. |

Derek Roy is the extreme opposite of what you want in terms of what I laid out. I don't think any of the trio of Nugent-Hopkins, Eberle, and Hall will be like that. I think they will for the most part play the game the right way. However, I guess I question how much leadership they all really possess. - buffalofan19
Derek Roy = the boatload of points but not really making anybody else better around him. |

This is a good point. I understand part of the problem was team defense. I tend to agree if we continue down that path of being defensively responsible it will definitely help in April. |

apparently we only get the out of town perspective when we watch Center Ice or listen to local local Pit radio on the interwebs. the perspective must be entirely different near the confluence of Mon, the Ohio, and the Allegheny. |

Dang, yeah that is not what you want to hear. Sums up the Russian stereotype pretty well. - kgrpitt
I hate that stereotype. And think its totally incorrect. But, yeah, he did his countrymen no favors with that statement. Probably taken out of context from intent, but scary. |

Yeah, I don't like stereotypes in general and I don't think the Russian one is an accurate one either but comments like that doesn't help the cause as you pointed out. Gives the haters more to go off of. |

This is a great line...
“With that comment, Laviolette tried to move Giroux into the same zip code and neighborhood as Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin,” Flyers analyst Al Morganti said. “ As it turns out, Giroux is having trouble paying the higher taxes in terms of attention and tighter checking.”

The Oilers constructed a team in the 1980's that was the definition of perfection for their era. It was very fun to watch as a young kid even though I didn't fully understand what I was watching at the time (I was 3-8 years old). - Ryan_Wilson
Well, they were really something. I grew up a Leaf's Fan 'cause there were only 6 teams then. I moved West in '80, the first year the Oilers were in the NHL. I adopted them as my "western" team, still cheering for the Leafs in the east. Wasn't too long before I was able to release myself from the grip the Leaf's had on me. It wasn't just because the Oilers were so exciting to watch, but I really despised how poorly Leaf's ownership treated their Player's, like my favorite Dave Keon, Sittler, McDonald, etc. I was there to witness the Oilers' first two Cups---what a thrill! So, I'm totally an Oilers Fan now but can empathize with Leaf's fans everywhere. |

So it's not all bad. Imagine if you remained a Leaf fan all those years. |

So true! Not a Burke fan, but he did assemble some good assets for the Leafs moving forward. |

Leafs are definitely on the right track. Back in the days you were a Leafs fan I think every Canadian was a Sittler fan. I know I was even though I was too young to realize just how good he was. |
