Because if they're still not doing well after 13 games this season, plus how crappy they were last year, and the coach was changed, it's clearly time to move some players out. Why wait any longer?

I blame all of this on the NHL. Both of these punks who are repeat offenders and known dirty players should be suspended for the rest of the season without pay. Furthermore it should be made clear to them that one more incident like this will result in a lifetime ban.

Couts may turn into a superb shut down third line center, scoring 40 points and neutralizing the other team's top lines.

Nothing wrong with that.

He may never be Toews/Bergeron, or even Staal.

But that type of player is valuable to a Cup winning team.

Jsaq mentioned here before that Lava was trying to go race a Corvette when having a tractor. I think its more clear now that the tracker is hamster powered and rusty.

Giving Berube 10 games to show some progress.

Even with a horrific record (1-6-0) the Flyers keep improving with every game it seems. They played great last night minus the faceoffs and the 3rd period. 5 on 5 play is looking better and better. Would love to see less dump in chase and better setups in the O zone.

The lack of scoring is unreal. With the talent on this this team, we have to be putting up a lot more goals.


I hope we keep McGinn once Hartnell and Vinny come back. Talbot can play on the fourth and scracth Rosehill finallly.

Introduce a 5-minute 5-on-3 major penalty for these kinds of reckless/intentional attempts to injure and I can guarantee you that coaches would be more willing to take a third mortgage on their house rather than put a Kaleta into the lineup again.

I look at Ryan Kesler's progression, the time it took for him to break out offensively... he was 24-25 before anybody in Vancouver even gave him a second thought as a top-six forward. Remember how ridiculous everybody thought Clarkie's offer sheet was?

Couturier can do other things besides put up points to help the team, and he's on an uber-affordable contract. Trading him now for anything less than a better player of the same age would be grossly irresponsible.

I think most people would say that they HAVE shown progress. Not in offensive output but in overall team play and effort.

Then you'd have even the non-Kaleta-esque guys being super hesitant about every hit.

he is, but i've also heard about certain superstar players "thinking the game" ahead of everyone else. seeing the ice differently. anticpating differently. etc. maybe that just doesn't translate well into being a good coach, but being a good coach is more about being just and X&O/sytems guy.

These days a great coach is a psychologist as well as a tactician. It doesnt matter how well he thinks the game if he cannot build effective relationships with his players, especially the stars and team leaders. The days of the Scotty Bowman/MikeKeenan do it cause I said so are over now that we are in the era of a salary cap and multi-million dollar guaranteed contracts.

My gosh. Maxime Talbot is a fourth-liner and is killing this kid.

You have to also put guys in a position to succeed and maximize their production... they did it with Giroux, by giving him the 1C ball and letting him run with it... but they didn't do that with any of the other core players.

Why rush to extend Hartnell if you've already got a younger (and arguably more consistent, and mentally astute) version in Simmonds?

Why bring in Vinny and push Schenn out of position (surprise, he looks better in the middle, again), and watch Couturier continue to languish on the 3rd-line with a rotating cast of wingers who can't score?

Why bring in Streit to push Gus out of the lineup after they just saw him playing like a champ at the WC's and at the end of the season?

I think Schenn looked better and was more productive playing with Vinny.

Streit is here to take Kimmo's PP and most of his ES time going forward and I think they tried their hardest to deal Meszaros so that Gus could be an everyday player.

Schenn's best game of the year by far was against DET... 7 SOG for himself and his line was clicking. They looked decent against VAN, too. Before that, he got a couple of gifts, but I wouldn't say that duo was playing well.

If Streit is Homer's idea of a long-term replacement for 44... oh boy.
