Schenn was good last year. The first 7 games this year are irrelevant and or a mirage. - PLindbergh31
I love how you constantly misrepresent statements, in order to take veiled shot at someone. The first 7 games are relevant in how he has played this Season. But he also played 40+ games last Season, and played very well. So does the 7 games this Season, erase the 40+ games and how he played last year. Because by that logic, Giroux can no longer play either. Because he has not played well either. I've also stated numerous times that Schenn is playing the worst out of all the defenseman, including Meszaros. |

he was really good last season on draws. - puckhead17
He being Hall? The sad part, he's likely the best faceoff guy on the Flyers. And so far this season, he's done pretty good with limited draws. |

Ouch. No power play time or PK time either. Honestly, it's looking like Dreger's source is right on the money regarding the Flyers skepticism of Luke Schenn.
This also flys in the face of Berube's statement about not playing Schenn alot when they are behind. They spent 58 minutes with a tie or a lead and i think that was the least amount they've played him. - Flyers_01
No PK time is very telling. The staff is not happy with Luke Schenn right now. For whatever (multiple) reasons.

I agree with you, that is how they operate, I just wonder what they could do, it's not like a few players are shining for other teams to make offers on. - puckhead17
Unless you want to trade Mason and Gustafsson. |

You are limited to how many deals you can retain salary in according to the CBA. If you'd like I'll point out the rules to you. You can't just keep salary of a bunch of players, as well as buy out a bunch of players to overhaul the roster. There is a salary Cap in place. And if you want to look at the numbers, we can do that also. - MJL
I don't need to look at anything with you, MJL. Why would you think I would?
They only have two guys with full no-trades: Hartnell and Lecavalier. Kimmo Timonen's in the last year of his contract, as is Andrej Meszaros. Neither goalie is under contract past this season. Everybody else has either no protection or modified no-trades, which means they only get to submit a list of teams they either will or won't consent to be traded to.
They could overhaul the entire freaking roster, if they chose to do so. The entire thing. The only two guys who would be likely to stay are Lecavalier and Streit, if they really wanted to do something and were motivated to do so. They'd even find a taker for Claude Giroux's contract, if they wanted to.
They could change 18 guys, if they wanted to. |

It would really take a lot of creativity to do that.
Do we have that "astute" of a GM? the hockey gods, (as Gene Hart used to say), are punishing them for the bad contracts.
struggling with all kids would be a ray of light, but Vinny & "can't shoot Streigt" Hartnell, the bad contracts could weight them down for a while. |

Maybe that's because he hadn't spent a training camp with Laviolette :p.
I hope you are right because otherwise this franchise is truly franked. They need Schenn to step up in a major way.

The idea was that in PK and defensive situations you would see Hall out there.. lightening the load on Giroux a bit. - jak521
they were shorthanded 1 time and controlled the play. no matter the number of draws, his percentage was bad. still not sure what hall is supposed to do about that |

L Schenn: 12:50 of ice time. Raffl had more. Why not play Mesz if L Schenn is barely getting any ice time?

Consider LSchenn fought last night, how much did that play into his TOI?
I'm not saying everyone's wrong on this; I'm just saying last night's numbers might be slightly skewed because he sat for 5 minutes. |

Holmgren picked Burke's skull apart with that trade. It's one of the reasons Burke was fired. |

Has L Schenn played poorly this season? I must be missing it. Then again, getting only 12-14 minutes of ice time, how can I be blamed? He's got more goals that Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Couts, Hartnell, Read, etc.
The only defeseman who looked good last night, who really stood out, was Gus. Coburn and Grossmann got burned on the 2nd goal and 3rd goals, right?
Again, I'm not getting the anti L Schenn stuff, or why Mesz is being benched if Schenn is going to play under 15 minutes on average. |

Its actually quite simple, teams do it all the time. When you have a d zone faceoff in the 3rd period of a game you are leading, you put a 2nd center on the line for the faceoff. - BiggE
really? i've been watching hockey for 40 years and never saw that......giroux would still need to win the draws he has to take, right? |

He only played 12:00, so I doubt he would have cracked 15 minutes without it. |

And I'm not saying he would've.
I am saying that the 5 minute major cut into any opportunity to exceed what he did manage to post. |

Because Schenn is a better defender to play with Streit. He wasn't the one out there blowing coverages in the 3rd period, and his ice time was that low because he spent 5 minutes in the penalty box for fighting. |

Yup, I considered that. Even adding that full 5 minutes on to his toi, it's light ice time for a d-man.

Yes he's played poorly. Benching him doesn't fit the narrative. Besides they have Meszaros packed away in bubble wrap, and foam peanuts ready to be shipped. |

You've NEVER seen that? It's Boston's MO, they did it the entire playoffs last year. The idea is to put 2 out there. The first one (who's not as good as the other) cheats. If he's tossed out, the other one takes the draw. It happens quite regularly. |
