question: if you're glen sather and edmonton calls you up and says: we'll give you yakupov if you give us MDZ, Kreider, and a 1st...do you do it? what if it's staal or girardi instead of MDZ?
- RAGSareDANGERus

Lock down D, great goaltending, getting pucks behind the D and grind away, get into shooting lanes (22 blocks I believe) and let your captain lead the way.

Its amazing that when they play this way and Brad Richards is Brad Richards and their PP doesn't lose momentum (here is where AV gets credit, they are shooting the puck and it will be productive if they keep banging away) and play mean, gritty 5 on 5 hockey and not pond hockey this team can win.

It took AV 5 games to figure this out. Perhaps the new coach will look at film from 11-12 and make the adjustments necessary to the blueprint that we know works with these guys which is all I was asking. Not an entire system overhaul.

Looked like a Torts coached team

Question: If AV adjusts to something pretty damn close to what Torts was doing on the ice while remaining a player's coach that these guys don't grow tired of. Is it a win? Because Torts was only fired because the players grew tired of him.

you know the same people who all game long every game whine about "staying out of the box" are also the same people who every time an incident happens, want to take out retribution and have the players do something that completely contradicts that philosophy.
- jimbro83

There's a difference between a stupid hooking penalty and defending a teammate. As you know, some penalties are good penalties and I ,for one, think someone should have gone after Brower.

Look at what happened when Ott and Tavares wrestled last game. 4 Islanders went after Ott immediately. Rangers have to let the league know liberties can't be taken.

I agree, it is different. I am happy to take a penalty there. Not a bench clear like Scotty Hockey stupidly state, but someone needs to at least scrum with Brower and take 2 min from roughing. Accident or not on Brower you need to show some fire. If the team really was that pissed, you go after the guy.

you know all the players heard about coming into the game was this vaunted Capital powerplay. They had a 2-0 lead in the third period, desperate to win a game. Stay out of the box was peppered in their brains.

Taking a roughing penalty last night might have let the Capitals back in the game.

They'll be another time to get back at Brouwer.

Can I say "do not trade our home-growns AND a #1 for Russians" without getting in any trouble?

Has this organization not learned yet about acquiring lazy Russians?

- mames11

Painting all Russians as "lazy" is pretty "lazy" analysis. And as far at the organization learning from acquiring lazy Russians, I think it is pretty clear that they don't even win the one Cup that they did without some "lazy" Russians in the lineup -- one of which lead the the 1994 Cup team in points, and the other stepped up huge in those playoffs (despite his enigmatic nature).

And, Nail is just turned 20 years old. He is 2 1/2 years younger than one of the homegrown guys included in that trade that still hasn't been able to consistently crack the Rangers lineup.

anybody know why Michael St. Croix hasn't played a game for the Wolfpack yet?

edit: just found out he is with Greenville of the ECHL and they haven't played a game yet.

That's disappointing

what a great win last night, that was definitely what the doctor ordered. Not only dominating the game but also seeing Lundqvist back to himself.

Warms the heart

Just keep it goin. It's waaaaay too depressing when we suck.

- jimbro83

They need to build on this win. Devils Saturday, followed up with the Flyers early next week. There really is no reason this can't turn into a three game winning streak.

As bad as things were last week it can easily turn around with a mini winning streak here. The last game of the road trip is in Detroit(thanks Cranny) and that won't be easy. But if they can grab these next two games, that will give them eight points on the trip, with one game to go. I said from the start, eight or nine points on this asinine trip, would make me happy.

Let's see if they can get to that mark and hope that Stepan is okay today. Can't sustain another injury to a top six forward; already have two out as it stands now.

The only players that shouldn't be available in any trade conversations here are: Hank, McDonagh, Callahan and that's it. To acquire a player like Yakupov, every other player should be available...every...single...other...player.

Agreed, Caps power play is too lethal. There is a difference with taking the extra penalty, against a talent poor team like Buffalo, and a team like Washington; that can absolutely light you up on the power play. Let's face it, if Joel Ward didn't get sweaty palms in the first, he had a slam dunk of a power play goal. Rangers were right to not jump Brouwer in that moment.

Four or five(not sure how games are played against divisional opponents this season) to get back at that clown.

If Yakapuov is worth this much why the fack is Edmonton putting feelers out there for a trade? If he's that good why trade him? For blue line help? Don't believe the hype

I think they have too many finesse forwards, not nearly enough blood 'n guts kind of players.

They should have traded that number 1 pick for multiple assets to begin with, or at least have drafted Ryan Murray.

No, but the East blows and aside from Pittsburgh, everyone else in the Metropolitan Division(yuck) is struggling.

He's not getting dealt, Eakins just wants him to fall in line. He better be careful though; this kid looks like he would jump to the KHL in a heartbeat.

Can't lose a supreme talent like that because you're too much of a hard@ass coach.

Yeah, we're sucking it up along with most of the division. Everyone seems to be shocked which in itself is shocking to me considering how our offseason went or lack there of. Anyone who thought this blue line would hold up was a couple fries short of a happy meal. Capuano doesn't help with his moronic personell decisions.
The one bright spot is they show glimpses of what they were last season towards the end. Still time of course.

Yakupov seems to have a bad case of Russianitis. I can see him "retiring" if he gets his panties in a bunch.

Thats been my point, I'm OK with changing the voice, maybe rather than belittling someone publically or in a heavy handed way do it another way....

I used the Devils in their glory years as an example, they won with different coaches with different voices but the way they won never changed...

Still think that both the Islanders and Rangers make the playoffs. This division is really bad.

Columbus, Carolina, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Washington are all bubble teams, at best.

Penguins, Islanders and Rangers--not in any exact order--should be the three, from this division, that make it.

The Atlantic Division, by all rights, should have five playoff teams this season. Boston, Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Detroit should all get in the playoff dance.

At some point NHL teams are going to stop drafting Russians bc of the question about their desire to play here. It seems like more than any other group, Russians seem to be more homesick than the others....
