Ristolainen out why...? Scratched or injured...? Can't wait for Zads to make an impact. Watch for him to have a bout with someone like Downie/Bordeleau/Sarich. He DID have a big fight in his first OHL game against one of the best fighters in the league... - LetsGoBuffalo75
I think I'd much rather have him play a soild all around game with a couple of decent hits as opposed to getting into a fight. |

How on earth Tallinder is not the one sitting out is beyond me.
He was flat out AWFUL last game. Dreadful. - kingcong39

I'd rather that happen too, but IMO he wants to make a name for himself. If we're getting dominated, I can see him going at it with someone. Zads fighting would be cool and all, but I also want to see his offensive upside. IMO he has as much, if not more than Risto. I remember when we first drafted Myers and scouts kept saying "big, defensive, mean, shutdown, etc." yet never really said much about offense. Zadorov had 25 points in 63 games playing low-ish minutes and practically no PP time due to the Knights' use of 4 forwards. Obviously I'd hope Zadorov still can play a shutdown role, but if in addition he has some undiscovered offensive prowess like Myers did I'd be VERY excited. |

No question 89, Tallinder should be the first one watching from the press box after last game. McCormick, if he wasn't injured, should have been the second. |

I give up, until Darcy is gone the face and culture of this team will never change. A rebuild or retool should start fresh and it's not. |

Not expecting Zadorov to fight. Didn't he just have a hand injury?

I'm pretty sure the coach decides who is in the line-up and who sits. At least that's how it works with most teams.
I don't see how line-up decisions & playing time for guys like Grigorenko can be blamed on Darcy? |

89's point is that Darcy is the one that picked this coach, who seems to be making at least questionable, if not outright bad decisions, consistently. |

I'm late to the party probably but Paul Hamilton just retweeted a Mike Harrington tweet. I'll paraphrase: "We just talked to Patrick Roy and when I brought up Grigorenko, what did Roy talk about ? His "compete" level. Uh-huh. Blog coming."
Maybe the other GM's that passed on Grigo WERE smarter than Darcy. (this just in).

Remember that they did get Girgensons as well 2 picks later, and while I am sure everyone will bring up Hertl, other than Ceci and Teravainen, it's not like there was a mountain of top end talent that he passed up on by taking Grigorenko. |

Or Laughton or Samuelsson. But I see your point.
I watched Grigo quite a bit the last game (not that you get much of an opportunity) but he just seems to coast so damn much.. Always making the one-hand-on-the-stick poke check instead of getting his nose dirty..
I just don't understand it. If I or anyone else on these boards had his opportunity I/we would skate through a wall on every shift if it meant making it in the NHL..

Your point is understood, however, neither you nor I have his talent, and while we both would bust our butt, his game is not about getting his nose dirty so much as it is having the puck on his stick and producing points, which he can do none of with the current teammates he is on a line with. In fact, he would probably stand a greater chance of producing with you and I as his wingers. |

They do look good, but they are not game changers.
Where Buffalo was, they had to take a chance on him being a potential game changer, or bust.
They already have enough 3rd line players. |

Girgorenko sure is a game changer for the other team. Giving pucks away like candy and coasting. I think people wouldn't be talking if it at least looked like he was putting forth some effort. I don't care if he produces much at this point I'm just looking for the effort and it's not there. I think we all knew at the time he was a high risk high reward pick. It's just not looking good. |

Teams fans love to make generalizations about players VERY early, and that is especially true for Sabres fans, however, remember how young he is, and that he's playing on the 4th line on a very bad team.
He should be playing the 3rd line, and given every chance possible, since he cannot go to the AHL.
It is a massive waste of time playing him 6 minutes a game with guys that should not even be playing in the NHL.
Try to reserve judgement for the time being until the guy is given a realistic chance to succeed. |

Exactly. He's got to show he can do more than shoot the puck or stand at the blue line ready to take the breakout pass. He's got to prove to his coaches and more importantly his teammates that he's willing to do what it takes to win.
If he was drafted by Detroit he'd either be scoring a ton of goals or he'd be traded already.
Buffalo needs veteran leaders that can still play. No one on this team can teach these kids to be pro's. |
