Exactly. He's got to show he can do more than shoot the puck or stand at the blue line ready to take the breakout pass. He's got to prove to his coaches and more importantly his teammates that he's willing to do what it takes to win.
If he was drafted by Detroit he'd either be scoring a ton of goals or he'd be traded already.
Buffalo needs veteran leaders that can still play. No one on this team can teach these kids to be pro's. - Pairo11
He he was drafted by Detroit he wouldn't sniff the NHL for another 3 years. They develope players properly |

Teams fans love to make generalizations about players VERY early, and that is especially true for Sabres fans, however, remember how young he is, and that he's playing on the 4th line on a very bad team.
He should be playing the 3rd line, and given every chance possible, since he cannot go to the AHL.
It is a massive waste of time playing him 6 minutes a game with guys that should not even be playing in the NHL.
Try to reserve judgement for the time being until the guy is given a realistic chance to succeed. - kingcong39
I think he should still be in junior honestly. Being here is doing nothing for him |

He should be in the AHL. Junior does nothing for him at this point. Zero.
Since Kevin isn't posting anything....

The AHL is exactly where he needs to be. He needs to be in a higher level of competition than junior but he's not ready for the NHL yet. He'd benefit from getting 1st or 2nd line minutes in Rochester. |

Agreed. I was thinking Detroit was a bad example when I typed that post.
But you get the point. |

What's the deal though ? He can't go the the AHL, only his junior team in the 'Q' right ??
Which sucks because he tears up the 'Q' but can't cut it in the NHL. |

Good read. AHL would be ideal - Cheeseballin
That stupid rule the CHL has in place needs to be taken away. There are so many young players that could benefit from some top line minutes in the AHL, even for a short while. |

well looks like we have to deal with it. That can't be changed until the next CBA can it? |

I get that we need to fire Darcy, but there are teams in much worse shape (Devils) than the Sabres |

Right. He's still junior eligible, which means he can't go to the AHL. Unfortunately for him, his Jr team released him from his contract. So in order to go back to Jr, he'd have to find a team willing to sign him. And with being a European player, the Jr teams are limited as to how many they can have.
He's pretty much stuck here. It's a shame that the rules are set up the way they are. It's only punishing him at this point.
The Sabres actually asked the CHL for a waiver and they denied it. |

Much worse. They'll probably get McDavid next year.

I thought their age was going to catch up with them last year. Guess it took one more season for them. For a team historically known for its D they sure dont seem to be focusing much on improving the corps. Larsson looks to be regressing too under the coach. Should be interesting if he decides to leave NJ. Clowe was a horrible signing and who knows about Brunner...started the season with 4 pts in first 3 played but I dunno if thats an apparition. What a game plan by Lou. Get three seasons to decide when to give up your selection and wait for the worst season out of em to finally do it. |

Yea they overpaid for players praying they wouldn't suck too bad without that 1st rounder. Lou has lost it the last few years |

They still have to forfeit the 1st round pick for Kovalchuk. Which is funny because he's not even there anymore. |

They have a 36 year old Elias
41 year old Jagr
33 year old Ryder
41 year old Broduer
Matteau seems to be an average prospect right now
Larsson has done nothing
Henrique and Zajac are their best young forwards, neither elite.
No 1st round pick. They are worse off IMO |

The positives? Tons of open space next season as they will likely purge if they tank and conversely have no top pick to show for all that work. Although as every GM has shown free agency is a good time to shoot yourself in the foot trying to add talent. Watch them get Mcdavid and start a building process around a generational talent...something we will miss out of due to bad timing it seems.
Though, whos to say we cant be a worse team next year? If Miller and/or Vanek are gone Enroth and Hackett can be serviceable but wont help us win games by any means. I guess the young guys may have developed some and can start to produce but we really could use a elite talent to assist in this whole process. |

Miller+ Vanek> Any moveable parts on New Jersey. Clowe has no value with that contract, Elias is signed until he's 40 and they could maybe get a 2nd for Jagr. |
