we traded the cupboard for Rick Nash and no one knows when he will play again, people will have to excuse the pessimism

This new system sh!t is getting really old, really fast. There are several teams, that had coaching changes, and none of them look as pathetic as the Rangers look.
If you want to use injuries and this joke of a road trip, ok. But please, stop with the new system stuff, it's an embarrassing excuse to use for professional athletes.
I would be encouraged with the team getting scoring chances but being snake bitten or having run into hot goaltending. This team generates next to nothing offensively; that's a big difference from not converting quality chances. - MidnightMarauder
the new system is the best "excuse". nobody knows wtf they're doing on defense. we have a stupid amount of defensive breakdowns per game and hanks been playing like sh!t so we get scored on 9 times.
the sharks game and ducks game where we lost a combined 15-2 was strictly because the players were all out of sync with...THE NEW SYSTEM. it's not like staal, girardi, and mcdonagh totally forgot how to play hockey those 2 games. nobody knew who their man was, and they often times lost their man when they did know, and they were out of position, and they lacked the necessary communication. |

if the nightmare comes true and Nash is out for the year, or even more, has to retire, do we trade more youth, picks, and try to get another elite player in here? do we stand pat? or do we sell off and rebuild this thing a bit?
Because that's where this is all coming from today. The Rangers complete silence about the state of Rick Nash. - jimbro83
I think you need to still wait. Because we need to see who emerges as someone that we can build with and someone that needs to be dealt for youth and talent. Literally everyone is struggling and the one guy that isn't can't be traded. It won't be THIS bad all year. It just won't. We need to see who does what once the teams bounces back a bit.
-What if Stepan comes back into form and comes back better? What if he doesn't?
-What if Staal plays even better and builds off his couple of good games thus far? What if he gets hurt again?
-What if Brassard bounces back and is the player he was in the playoffs? What if he continues to suck? What if he gets back to his norm which is a 45-50 pt player?
-What if Hank continues to struggle?
-What if Kreider busts out like we all hoped and leads a resurgence? What if he sucks and is sent back down?
Too many questions, too early on. If I'm Sather I am dealing and tinkering with players that don't affect my long term building of the team and clearing out the brush. But I am not making any even remotely major moves until individuals on this team show me what they truly are and you can't say what they are with 100% certainty this early on. |

Andrew Gross @AGrossRecord 11m
No Henrik Lundqvist on the ice for #NYR practice. Third straight practice missed for Hank. Not a good sign for tomorrow at Philly.
- jimbro83
You do not know the Flyers are worse against NYR backup goalies than against Hank? It is freakish. |

you are ignoring the speculation that Rick Nash may never play again - jimbro83
i saw the gross article but that's what media does...speculate the worst possible situations.
listen, even if rick nash was set to return 2 games from now, the rangers wouldn't say anything because that's how the rangers are. silence isn't always the worst thing possible.
nash will play again before thanksgiving yo. |

It's not fair weather of any Rangers fan to be completely discouraged with what is going on this season and suggesting that maybe retooling is a great option.
Sather bet the ranch on Nash and it looks like it is going to completely blow up in his face. Hope not but the signs are everywhere. |

Or maybe he's Sidney Crosby and he's out for a year and then comes back and IS able to play. Hate the head injuries, man. They suck eggs. |

well, he isn't practicing yet again today, and the Rangers have no comment.

Great avatar aside, I couldn't disagree more. Why does Dallas look respectable early on, with a new coach? Why does Vancouver look respectable, heck good even, with a completely new coaching staff?
Both teams have more pure skill than the Rangers do, simple as that. It's not the system that is failing this team; it's the personnel that is unable to adjust to the new system. |

It's simply too early for me and I'm sorry I can't write a team off that has yet to play a home game and has 2 of its 4-5 star players out of the lineup. |

again though, if we are out of it by the deadline, and it's no unreasonable to believe that is possible right now, they seriously need to consider stocking the cupboard

No way do they get rid of the core youth, agreed. But they definitely need to open their eyes and realize this team relies on the too few higher quality players they actually have.
This team's current makeup is too shallow on talent and too deep on dead weight. |

There are are a lot of expiring contracts on the team too. If the sh!t really hits the fan, they can definitely unload on a lot of players at the deadline. |

offense should never be put to blame due to a new coaching system, but defense definitely should.
i will semi-agree with your last sentence. it's not that the system sucks, it's that the team is still LEARNING how to adjust. practicing in practice and watching video only goes so far. you have to really take strides in learning how to play the defensive system that AV wants during games.
the defense has gotten better with each passing game. |

that is certainly what you're inferring.

i haven't seen you say that rick nash hasn't practiced yet, but he will return before thanksgiving. or any time this season. you literally just say he hasn't practiced, and then you throw around buyout numbers for him. |

Do these teams have injuries to critical players like a Nash, Captain Crunch, and speedy Gonzalez? |

buyout numbers? wow you really can't read
the speculation about him not playing again comes from the fact that he had a very serious concussion last year, apparently a very serious one this year and the organization seems to be acting the same way they acted about it like they acted with Michael Sauer.
But, I'll take your word for it, he'll play by thanksgiving, I feel better now |

The vibe is getting bad in here. How bad will it be when we lose to the Flyers tomorrow? How bout the nice round of applause the boys will get when they return home Monday? |

Right but they still aren't scoring. They are running into the same issues as they had with Tortorella. So far, the only difference with this team is that they look awful in both the offensive and defensive zone.
We came to expect the defense and goaltending to always keep them in games until they scraped out a goal or two to eek out wins. But now, despite the defense looking better the last two games, they are not getting the expected stellar goaltending they have so heavily relied upon since Lundqvist arrived on Broadway.
This is solely on the players and even more so on Sather for completely blowing up a team that was two wins away from the Stanley Cup Finals. I know hindsight is 20/20 but the results are clearly not in the Rangers favor since he tore that team down. |

If they lose tomorrow night and Lundqvist is out against the Wings, they will return home with a 2-7 record.
I hope people bring frozen eggs to the game and pelt the players, as they get introduced. It's starting to become embarrassing to be a Rangers fan again. |
