We have a place in Key West and travel there a lot. While its often as warm or warmer than Miami, its usually breezier and not quite as humid. Plus I spend most of the day hangin on the beach or by the pool with cold one nearby so its all good!! |

He probably has a pulled groin.
I could see this little "one week" injury nagging him all season until he ends up getting the "sports hernia surgery".
Sorry I woke up negative again. |

I get what you were saying... I posted it so that the synonyms were up there.
I think it was impulsive. I think it was a rash decision. I also think it was reckless.
You had a rookie goalie come in and win 28 games (after only starting in 52) and posting solid #'s as well (.915 save % and 2.59 gaa). He had a rough game in the playoffs and boom.. he is removed. That was the knee jerk move.
The lose in the playoffs, and the org makes an impulsive, rash, and reckless decision to change the entire team to get a new goalie(among other reasons).
If that isnt an impulsive, or rash, or reckless move.. than we dont see eye to eye.
The only (by definition) knee jerk move was to bench Bob in favor of the other two AHLers. - jak521
You're right, we don't see eye to eye. The only reason you might think it's reckless, is because you're factoring in that Bobrovsky went to Columbus and won the Vezina. Neither the Flyers or the Coaches thought or believed that at the time. If they Flyers knew that Bobrovsky would go on to win the Vezina, do you think they would've traded him and signed Bryzgalov? Mistakes like this are made all the time in Hockey. It's why it's stated that player evaluations aren't an exact science. Bobrovsky was traded a month and half after the playoffs ended. How that can be considered a knee jerk move escapes me. And if it is, then pretty much every move any team makes is knee jerk. Because at the end of the Season, you decide where you need to improve, and come up with a strategy on how to go about it. |

So I am not being dramatic about it, and not once did I say trading Bob was a knee jerk move... In fact, Bob was actually traded a year after that playoff series...
My point is that it WAS impatient, rash, and reckless to go out and literally at all costs try to get a goalie. We finally had some serious potential in net. Bob was in his first year in the NHL and was putting up very solid numbers. Even more so, he was a hell of a committed competitor. He was willing to learn, and put it a ton of work to continue improving.
Im not basing this at all on what Bob ended up doing last season. Im basing it on how the org. works on a normal basis.
It was reckless to go out and (again) at ALL COSTS get a new goalie. If that isnt reckless idk what is. If I remember correctly, didnt Homer or Snider or Lukko (or one of them) admit that they kinda over bid for a goalie that summer. Didnt need to go so aggressively? Ya know, trading for the goalie you want (who was a UFA anyway) and then signing him to a 9 year deal?
All because Mr. Snider publicly stated the goalie problem needed to be solved? |

I think it's fair to say the decision to "fix the goaltending" after the 2011 playoffs was knee jerk. Maybe not on the seconds and minutes scale, but the decision to change course was made after one bad game by the promising young goaltender. On a relative scale, that's a pretty hasty change of heart.
Just my two cents. |

Reckless, maybe. I think they're more guilty of constantly vacillating between plans, though.
Bob was the one we all remember most, but they also let Eriksson's rights lapse so Homer could go and blindly follow the trend of hugely-tall goalies. Then we got to watch as Eriksson posted consecutive .930SV% seasons, and a .950SV% en route to an Elitserien Champtionship, while Hovinen got lit up in the ECHL, got waived, and was flushed out of NA hockey. |

Not only knee jerk, but also such a shallow viewpoint of the team's issues and an over-inflated value of the goaltender position. |

to be fair they knew there were issues with the D as constructed but those issues were much harder to fix
overvaluing the goalie position I agree |

I'm with you on that one. With the exception of very few goalies, the position really does seem like a poopshoot. |
