They send you to counseling after the transplant it basically mandatory. Lots of people struggle with the fact it's someone else organ in them.

Yeah, the doc said that you are on a high from having a life saving surgery and then a low realizing that life will be different from then on. I imagine the thought of having someone else's organ in you is different too.

I ve never had a problem with it. Honestly gets to the point you don't even think about it, it's part of the life and you just continue on.
You re life doesn't change much you feel better and you take new pills. Oh and when you get x rays it looks like twist ties holding you re chest together.

My xrays already look pretty different with a metal pump inside me as well as the wire that goes to my controller and the wire used to tie the sternum back together. I've been on pills since I was 15 so that won't be much of a change.

I have tried the psychiatry before and found it didn't really help. If I want to talk, I have some really great friends that are willing to listen though.

We tend to think of our mental health as something that does not need any maintenance/fixing until there is a problem ie: depression, It is not something we think of maintaining before there is a problem, and to prevent one from happening. Antidepressants can work, they are just commonly over prescribed when some people don't need to be on them (have normal neurotransmitter production/function) if they work for you, they work for you. They just do come with side effects.

It will be nice not having to change batteries half through the evening everyday (I just had my low battery alarm going off and had to change them).

That makes sense; if it's not broke, don't fix it, right? I have enough side effects from all my other meds so what's a couple more?

Depression is very prominate in transplant patients, not sure why. Possibly a mix of medications as well as traumatic experience. You are to find this out for me and Nated81 when you go back to class.

Yeah it's a poor way of looking at things. Like not doing maintenance on your car, waiting till you have a 3000$ repair job. Was a very profound statement I heard from a psychologist recently. "We don't wait till we are sick, or injured to go to the gym and such, why wait till we have a mental health issue before we address it"?
I have dealt with depression for a while due to post concussion issues and life events. Know what it is like for me anyways, not for you. I guess at this point what's one more med eh, hopefully they work for you. Just remember when you do get your new heart, and are regularly rogering your wife again, it does (frank) that up when you come off of them.

I can tell you right now it is a combination of both most likely. First thing is lack of activity will cause depression, which is easily reversible but not in your cases. It is traumatic and a life stressor which leads to it. As well as med combinations can cause it, as well as some meds can suppress your production of test, which is a cause of depression. Lots of different causes, and probably not limited to just one in your cases. Suck, but a part of life, which you two seem to have come to terms with.

Yeah it can, they actually use them to treat premature ejaculation as well. It can delay achieving climax, but the withdrawal after stopping can cause premature ejac, which really sucks
