Even if this is all absolutely true, none of it seems problematic. - BulliesPhan87
The falling down drunk isn't phenomenal news. But they are young and stupid. So it's expected... |

I assume you aren't a professional athlete whose overall physical health impacts your performance?
I'm glad they can blow off steam. I wouldn't make them role models for children. |

Comments? Is it all rubbish? - Bearintheforest
This is exactly the kind of celeb/tmz/utter BS stuff that I couldn't give a rats behind about. As long as they show up and play hard, who gives a damn what any athlete or for that matter an actor or singer, does in their spare time. I certainly don't!
And by the way, the beloved Broad Street Bullies, winners of back to back Stanley Cups, went out drinking all the time and half of them were chain smokers as well. Really hurt their play, didn't it?

I agree that's it's not super relevant. But comparing them to the Broad Street Bullies is unfair. WAY different expectations of conditioning expected and demanded in today's league. |

Sorry
If the team isn't doing a solid job on the ice, stuff like this will be the medias wet dream. Sadly. - Bearintheforest
It sure will. But it goes on with every team. And has ben going on for a long time with pro sports teams. Not a big deal. |

This line intrigues me... so, is it like if you play back what they were saying in reverse, all you hear is "Homer sucks! Homer sucks!"... ? - Tomahawk
yea im sure they all joked about how overpaid they all are, and what a joke of a team management put together, i mean look at us. |

I've done a lot of road trips over the years to other cities, for flyers road games. After games, they all go out. Including Coaches, GM's etc. I'm sure there are some exceptions, such as with Holmgren and his addiction. But it's been going on forever. I'm with you, I don't care. |

I understand that. I just think that: A. The story is most likely exaggerated and B. Who cares if they went to a ball game, had a few beers and hit on a few girls?
It just really gets on my nerves the way the media goes out of their way to try and tear someone down or catch them in an embarrassing moment. They are always there to film someone the one time they screw up, but God forbid they cover these athletes when they are visiting sick kids or doing other charity work. The media in general, with Bill Meltzer being a rare exception, just make me sick. Its all about ratings and promoting themselves rather than objective and well thought out coverage.

Richards isn't half the player he used to be. No thanks.

And the same things go on when the team is winning. But it only becomes a story when the team is losing. It's an all too familiar scene. Not a lot of that kind of stuff out there right now. But if this team continues to struggle. I expect those kinds of stories to start surfacing. |

i saw no photos of anything other than that they were there. i doubt much truth was in that "story". they can get drunk at a football game if they want, they're adults. |

Sunday was a day off for the team, last time I checked they are free to do anything they like within reason. I don't see why anyone would have issue with a bunch of guys hanging out watching a football game. Nothing wrong with having a few beers either.
This is really much to do about nothing imo.

I think the real story here is the Eagles were so bad, some shmuck decided it'd be more entertaining to document the antics of a bunch of famous strangers instead of watching the game. |

I swear people act like athletes are not human. They should sit in their homes in the dark and go to bed without dinner when they are playing bad. Actually a little team bonding like that is not a bad thing. Now do I want to hear they are partying non stop and it is affecting them on the ice? No. but do I care if they are hanging out, having some beers, picking up some girls and blowing off steam on an off week? not at all |

Truthfully?
It doesn't bother me or excite me, either way. These are young men, who play a physical sport, who people -- especially younger women -- tend to gravitate toward.
They will never care as much about the outcomes as fans will. They've been playing their whole lives, on different teams, with different players, for different coaches.
That doesn't mean they don't care. Far from it. It just means that their perspective on games, bad stretches, slumps...it's just different.
I have a job that people think is difficult. It really isn't that tough. Some days I care a lot. Some days, it's harder to get motivated.
Players are human, too. As long as they stay in shape, I honestly don't care what they do on their own time. - AllInForFlyers
Exaclty. I have no issue with them blowing off some steam. I have played hockey for quite a while and love it, but I also need time away on occasion, and I only play about 50-60 games a year. This may have been a team bonding type of thing to try to get them back on track. I prefer to see them having fun when winning, but it's no different than me having a hard week at work then going out Friday for 15 beers LOL. |
