I swear people act like athletes are not human. They should sit in their homes in the dark and go to bed without dinner when they are playing bad. Actually a little team bonding like that is not a bad thing. Now do I want to hear they are partying non stop and it is affecting them on the ice? No. but do I care if they are hanging out, having some beers, picking up some girls and blowing off steam on an off week? not at all

Absolutely. No different than how I acted in University except for they are millionaires and I was not. LOL

Exactly. If they were playing well I doubt this would have even come up. They are playing poorly so it's an issue. Just because a team is playing poorly doesn't mean, nor should it mean the players should be miserable in their time away from the rink. That serves no purpose.

Exaclty. I have no issue with them blowing off some steam. I have played hockey for quite a while and love it, but I also need time away on occasion, and I only play about 50-60 games a year. This may have been a team bonding type of thing to try to get them back on track. I prefer to see them having fun when winning, but it's no different than me having a hard week at work then going out Friday for 15 beers LOL.

I'm sure the exact situation can be said for the single guys (and maybe some of the married ones) on all 30 teams. its only public if the team is losing. Well, or if someone gets arrested .

Sunday was a day off for the team, last time I checked they are free to do anything they like within reason. I don't see why anyone would have issue with a bunch of guys hanging out watching a football game. Nothing wrong with having a few beers either.

This is really much to do about nothing imo.

- PLindbergh31

Not even an issue in my books. Blow some steam off, and come back hard at the Rangers Thursday. Lots of season left and they still have time to make the playoffs.

True.. even when losing, i am ok with it if it's done in the name of team bonding/blowing off steam etc.. with a view to improving.

Its amazing how many people feel it should. Athletes know when they are sucking. No athlete wants to suck. that said, its ridiculous to expect them to be miserable 24/7 because of it. Talk about counterproductive.

Exactly! IF people knew how much beer my team drinks after games and at tournaments etc.. their liver would have sympathy pains.

No doubt. When they have a bad day at work it just happens to be in front of a ton of people. They are compensated extremely well, and have chosen this life, still doesn't mean they have to eat sleep and drink their job 24/7. Not fair to expect that from anyone.

No, they should practice literally all day, and sleep on their skates (if they practiced well enough). They should never have any opinions of their bosses, no matter how innocuous. And they certainly shouldn't make jokes about the tough parts of their jobs. I mean, normal people don't do that, right?

At what point $ wise does it become fair to expect that? At my math the average player makes 50 x's my salary, and plays a game for a career. During the offseason, they can do whatever it is they want. But when youre starting off a season horribly, acting like you dont care, using your fame to pickup chicks, it seems a little unrealistic to just say theyre all blowing off steam.. Are there pictures/stories of Crosby out drinking? We put these guys on their pedestals

Well, what do you expect them to do on an off day?

And IMO you are jumping to a lot of conclusions based on the rantings and opinions of some dude on a message board.

I've done a lot of road trips over the years to other cities, for flyers road games. After games, they all go out. Including Coaches, GM's etc. I'm sure there are some exceptions, such as with Holmgren and his addiction. But it's been going on forever. I'm with you, I don't care.

So you're saying that if you're 25-years old, a hockey player in a huge market, and single--you're not going to try and score with a lot of chicks?

I don't see how a person's salary correlates with what they get to do on their day off. Should a heart surgeon have his nose in his medical books on his time off?

Yes and No - I wouldn't expect him to be fighting at bars, and I would want him spending time reading up on the latest techniques and medical break throughs...
I have known surgeons who protect their hands specifically because they know that without them it would impact their job, granted the difference between saving lives and putting a puck in the net is vast..
Ever watched a surgeon try and stop an elevator door from closing? 99% of them will use their foot / maybe elbow.... Nor do I expect my surgeon to run around the block before performing surgery so yeah I don't care if he's overweight and out of shape, just in tip top mental form.
So yes, salary can impact expectations of how you act in your day to day I'm not at work life...

That said, these are young guns blowing steam, so I expect them to be out relaxing, drinking and having a good time. And I'm cool with that. I just wouldn't want the alcohol to impact their play on the ice or their overall heatlh.
