i said it last year and i said before the season started that i thought he's a very good goalie who could turn it around here. his play is bearing that out. i can live with the poop show in front of him right now because of it. if they could score more than 2 gddamn goals a game, he'd be 11-2-0 or there about, with even slightly better stats. he's been outstanding. - hammarby31

Damn. I knew it was something close to that, but WOW.
I don't care what anybody says. You do that at the end of one season and the start of another, that's not a fluke.
That guy's getting it done at a freakishly high level. Hell, that's the goaltending we were paying The One Who Shall Not Be Named for.

I'm a believer that the Flyers have their Goalie of the now and the future. Hope he keeps it up. I should add that nobody will point that out on Homer's resume. |

By the way, folks:
Mark Streit played well tonight.
No, he's not physical. And I'm sure if someone looks hard enough, they'll find something he didn't do.
But overall, he played pretty well tonight. Luke Schenn was better -- not that I think he's been as awful as some feel, but I respect that opinion, too -- and again, while it's not always pretty, the overall team defense didn't kill them.
There were good things in this game, things that can carry over into the next game. Not fake stuff, stuff that isn't sustainable. - AllInForFlyers

B Schenn still getting all kinds of good looks from prime shooting spots.
If the worm ever turns for this kid he could score a bunch of goals. |

It is very refreshing to have a goalie that can move the puck, too.
He made some really good saves tonight.

I agree but if he is injured then get Mez out there and let Timo heal. Bettr for the team in the short and long term since you can get something for Mez at the deadline. - jstross
I agree. Play Meszaros and let Kimmo get fully healthy.
The PP coach is still the same as last season, right? |

How Martin St. Louis is still playing at this high of a level is nothing short of amazing... 38 years old and is still a PPG player |

Prospal was a contributor when he averaged more than 15 minutes a game |

Seth Jones already playing 25+ mins a night for the preds. Still can't believe he fell to their lap. |

Yeah man, defensively they were always intelligent drafters... now they're blessed too. |

It's 14 games. I'm still rooting for Ray to be a big contributor but Mason will need to carry the ball long term. |

I had doubts, but tried to keep an open mind. Mason has really been impressive. He's been focused, bad goals don;t seem to faze him and he's working his butt off.
He's making it really easy to pull for him. |

funny, i didn't have any confidence in any facet of their game. zero offensive zone pressure, almost total inability to get the puck back, and have you ever seen a team as bad at clearing the zone? i'd really like to see anything that i could say "yeah, they'll be ok" but they still can't really do much of anything right.
and think about this: if they win 60% of their next 40 games that will put them at 26-23. not that i think they can even play .600 hockey but i doubt this will put them in the top 8, so once again, instead of being a top team, they will be battling just to get in. it really never gets old, does it? Actually...yeah, I do.
I'm not blind -- Simmonds was truly...not good. Timonen looks like a No. 6. He's clearly not what he once was, and that's tough to watch.
The power play is ridiculous right now. Horrific. Just...horrifying to watch.
So yes, I saw everything that everyone else saw, and yeah, the Rangers didn't have even close to their best lineup.
But the Flyers clearly moved the puck with more authority. The breakouts were better. They hit two posts off good, quality shots. Vincent Lecavalier was in Absolute Beast Mode. I think he and Claude Giroux...that might work really well.
Yes, they need to be better, to start winning more games.
But I do honestly believe there's a bit more there, from this team. A bit more.
And, again: I do think Steve Mason is the goaltender. He's played well enough, from last season and this season, for this to not be a fluke or hot streak.
He's been good for us, and I think for once, we have caught a freaking break and just might have a goaltender. - AllInForFlyers

he looks a little slow, but he's plying fairly well...he'll be even more impressive when he knows where his line mates will be on the ice... |

Great to see I was not the only one who thought Kimmo looked bad. Probably the worst Ive seen his entire career. I think the writing is on the wall for this guy. I have feeling this defensive corps is going to have a major overhaul coming by the start of next year. Ya never know what may happen with the Flyers though. |

not a real encouraging win. powerplay still is terrible and they didn't generate much more at five on five, either |

I would take the pages on which that is written and use it to line your pet bird cage. That's about what it's worth. - MJL
Why would you think anybody cares what would you do? The man gives his view - nobody knows how things will turn out...But as it is right now Sabres with 16th pick look much better than Flyers with 11th. And it is worth something |

Right now is far too early to make any kind of determination like that.
