He'll be scratched here just like Toronto.
BREAKING!!!! Lupul got hit in the foot with a puck in practice and is getting x-rays.
*is this really news? isn't he always getting x-rays?* - mayorofangrytown
Rumor has it Lupul has an X-ray room dedicated to him in Toronto. |

The coach has said that his main goal is to get everyone to "skate quicker and think quicker" on the ice.
This is the biggest glaring issue, imo. It's just mind numbing how slow the Flyers are to REACT to loose pucks, especially in their own zone. By the time one of our players reacts to a loose puck, it seems the opposing player has already taken a stride or two.
They're very much in the habit of watching, instead of reacting - and it's been that way for a while. Hopefully Berube can get them back on the right course, beginning tonight. |

They said the same for Duncan Seimens, Colton Teubert, Ty Wishart, Boris Valabik, Mike Komisarek, Rosti Klesla, Branislav Mezei, Aki Berg, and hundreds of guys before them.
Morin's ceiling could be Braydon Corburn for all we know... much less his floor. - Tomahawk
The term "ceiling" usually means a player's top potential, and most agree that, if he reaches that potential, he can be a #1 defenseman. I guess, theoretically, every defenseman has the possibility to be the next Bobby Orr, but generally, analysts look at his size, confidence, athletic ability, mental make-up, and project where he COULD end up if he realized his potential. Most never fully realize it, and in rare cases, some exceed it. But he could end up like Coburn, which would be okay with me. |

It seems they were always spending too much time trying to remember what they were supposed to be doing rather than just doing it. Maybe it had to do with Lavi's philosophy of go go go all the time, which goes against all the defensive responsibility they had been taught all their lives.
Hopefully they start to just react instead over thinking everything.

yeah that is worse. I mean, drafting one player over another usually plays out over time and you can never tell. I don't think anyone liked moving the 27th pick for Eminger regardless of who was even taken let alone factoring in who WAS taken - nastyflyergirl
Noteworthy guys taken soon after Carlson... Voynov, Stepan, Hamonic, Josi, Schultz, Wiercioch, Scandella, Markstrom, Jake Allen... cringe-worthy.

As much as I would like this to happen, I don't think it will, at least not until the trade deadline. Homer is not dealing from a position of strength and other GMs know it. The returns he is probably being offered for Coburn are most likely pretty awful. |

Exactly. For the time being, unless something crazy is proposed, best to wait until the TDL and evaluate your position. |

I don't hate the Morin pick, but let's take a step back here... he hasn't shown anything thus far that would suggest he's a future #1 NHL dman. Most still have him projected as a 4-6 stay-at-home type at best.
He'd have to have a strong offensive post-draft season to definitively change that outlook. He's doing OK so far, and I'm pulling for him, but I'm not going to anoint him as a potential #1 dman until he shows more. |

Oh, I'm not either. I'm just saying, his top ceiling is a #1 (still a lot of "IF"s, but he has the potential). He's still got 2 more years in juniors, so we'll see. |

I used to be a big Luke Schenn fan, thought he would be a team captain some day. He goes through long stretches of time being a defensive force and then long stretches of being completely average. It's frustrating to watch when you know what he is capable of.
Now I'm an even bigger JVR fan. Thanks Philly! - magmoo
Well JVR goes through long stretches of being a top forward, and long stretches of being completely average. |

Well as rough as Torts was, he was no dummy. He knew the teams strengths were to play it close to the vest, use your goaltender & defense as your best offense.
The players clearly voiced to Sather they wanted Torts out & they got what they wanted, a players Coach who is hands off in the room. It's on them to get the job done. They havn't.
No excuses but the 9 game road trip to start the season with a new Coach/system didn't help either. Nash's injury & the severity of it & Hank not up to par this year just adds to the mess right now. - B2B76
As bas as the Rags are struggling right now, when does Sather start feeling some heat? |

He has to maintain near a point-per-game pace (or more) in the Q this season for me to even start to believe that he has enough offensive game to have #1 potential. |

I didn't see much of JVR as a Flyer to really draw a comparison, but he's been an effective player on the penalty kill for the Leafs this season. His game has matured nicely since he first arrived in Toronto and he's been using his size in front of the net more. I saw an earlier comment about him fizzling and maybe that will happen, but I like what I've seen so far.
Hope Luke gets back on his A game for you guys. He's a quality guy that can be a rock on D when things are going well. - magmoo
JVR last Season went through a stretch of 22 games where he scored just 4 goals. Including a stretch of 9 or 10 games or so, without a single goal. |

I guess I'm excited to watch a game tonight.
Callahan, Nash and even Hagelin (his speed is a bad match up for the Flyers D) are typically Flyer killers and all are out.
Schenn and Voracek had some mojo working last season when they were together.
The 4th line could actually be used in a tight game.
I hope Vinnie is fully healed, I get a bad feeling about nagging groin injuries.

Just one report on Morin:
TSN Scout Craig Button:
Samuel is obvious because of his size but what has become every bit as obvious is his ability to impact the game not only with that size but with an ever-improving skill set. Very good skater with mobility, balance and quickness. He's a very difficult player to break down with speed and he is able to use his skating to put opponents into disadvantageous positions. He reads the play well defensively and makes plays under pressure. He has good puck skills and he moves the puck cleanly and effectively. He will assert physically and has a territorial mindset and as he continues to mature, will have the ability to make it very unpleasant to play against him. Has continued to improve and shows the potential to be that big defenceman who is so coveted in the NHL.
Rankings:
Craig Button: No. 13 | NHL CS: No. 23 NAS | ISS: No. 32 | The Hockey News: No. 20 | McKeen's: No. 10 |

Do you think that the Flyers took him that high in the first round because he's projected to be a 4-6 stay at home type at best? Or because they fell he projects much higher then that? |
