Well, he did bring a lot of energy and score goals.
I think I would have kept McGinn if they were not playing VL with G, and Jake on the 2nd line.
He'll be back I would bet, and I love the way he played this time around.
Not certain he has to be a top six player to make it in the NHL show. - Marc D
I'm not certain either. But I think the Flyers feel that he's better on a scoring line then on a 3rd or 4th line.

No shutout for Stolarz tonight the top line in the OHL featuring Connor McDavid (2015) opened up with a power play goal. |

Certainly, it's fair to question that, and again, it's Craig Berube's call.
But it's hard to fathom it, sometimes. McGinn clearly does something right...but whatever it is he's not doing, I freely admit I have trouble seeing it.

They won't make Hartnell a healthy scratch.. that would be a bad return on investment.. and this is a business in the end. - mikel33
No a bad return would be to miss the playoffs again. More games played more revenue. |

Where is the written explanation?
I went to the Flyers site and saw his interview with the local media, he just said McGinn needed to play more consistently. - Marc D
You being more consistent like Fraud Giroux, Jake the snake bitten and all of the other top guys scoring all the goals this season. Oh wait they haven't scored one goal yet. Great idea to send the player with the most goals on a team that can't score many goals back to the AHL. Way to reward players. Give the guys that are sucking more time on the ice. |

mcginn sent down, raffl stays?

ASF lays out why... - isaiah520
Max Talbot was given a maintenance day to deal with his nose issue. “He’s got a piece of the boards stuck in there,” said general manager Paul Holmgren. “Really,” asked a reporter? “No,” Holmgren chuckled. “But it looks like it.”

I already said my take earlier and I guess I'll say it again to try to steer clear of this side show drivel on this last page and a half....
My take is more or less as follows:
Let's first assume for now that it was either McGinn or Raffl that was to be sent down (which I'm sure was the case, honestly...). The Flyers have 3 options, since Hartnell is going to be slotted back into the top 6 and clog up the roster spot held by one of McGinn or Raffl-
1) Send down one of McGinn or Raffl; self explanatory....
2) Send down Hall, freeing up the 4th line center position
3) Send down Rosehill, freeing up the popcorn pushing position
Now, if we look at options 2 and 3, do we really want to stick the odd man out between McGinn and Raffl in the 4th line center position? Not only would they play 5 mins a night, but they'd be playing out of position!! So option 2 is out the window. Option 3 is basically the same thing, except worse- would you want to see McGinn/Raffl kept on the roster only to be a healthy scratch? No way.
It sucks, but this is exactly what a logjam does. It forces tough decisions. Nevertheless, I'd rather see McGinn getting time on the powerplay en route to seeing AHL ice for 18+ minutes as a top line winger than seeing NHL ice either for 5 minutes a night or from the press box....
As far as the decision itself, I think McGinn was given the poop end of the stick because Raffl is the more defensively sound of the two, and that fits Berube's system better. Is that a slight to McGinn's 2 way game? No. I think he's been more than adequate. Raffl has been better though from what I've seen.
It's really a damned if you do damned if you don't thing. Do I agree with seeing McGinn down in the AHL again? Not really. But I see the rationale here.
I am gonna miss that refreshing nose to the net though. I'm sure we'll see him again before Christmas and even before Thanksgiving |

Ha! You know what? That's an interesting read, because that goes hand-in-hand with what I was saying about Nail Yakupov -- wanting him to play like a grinder is silly. Just get another grinder, if you feel you need one. |

This guys on the Flyer payroll. Take it all with a grain of salt.
I'm pretty sure he is waiver exempt right?
Has his on ice play really dictated him being sent down? How can you honestly assess Simmonds and Hartnell's play and determine that they should be in the lineup over Mcginn at this point?
The simple fact is Mcginn's contract allows the Flyers to move him out of the lineup without losing him. The same can't be said for the others except for Raffl. |

i see your point, but i don't take it as far. Yak has to play w/in a team concept better than he has. it's part of learning how to win. else you get a team of guys happy they got their points and winning becomes secondary.
all that being said, i don't care for how that team is constructed...really could have benefitted by taking landescog instead of RNH. |

They aren't asking Yakupov to play like a grinder. They're asking him to work hard and pay attention to detail at both ends of the ice.

I was thinking about baby Schenn today.
If he starts hitting a "normal" shooting percentage he is going to start getting goals in bunches soon. He has been getting some of the best looks from really high percentage areas.
I saw Read pick things up the last few games before he finally got one.
Hoping the gates open for Schenn too.
(And G and Voracek and the rest too).
