I wonder if it's from all the boos in Montreal, or do they cheer him now? How does that work? |

If they are going to do the young, waiting game, then I would rather just wait and see what Morin, Hagg, Alt, Konan, Gostisbere, and Laurdisen can do. At least 3 will be NHL players IMO and I'm counting on at least 1 top pairing guy. Add that to Schenn and Gus and that is a solid defense for some time. - youarewrong
Erm, like counting chickens, do we?
Most, if not all, of those guys are a good 1-5 years away from being productive players, if they manage to make the NHL at all. Not a single one of them is a slam-dunk, can't miss... all come with significant question marks.
In the meantime, the blueline is a mess and needs immediate and near-term NHL-caliber help. Maybe some of these young, value guys could turn into long-term contributors like Coburn.... who knows. It's certainly a lot more promising than throwing more $ at the problem through UFA for declining players. |

Then we better trade him for a guy almost 10 years older than him and may not resign - funmaster18
If you trade for him now, then you can hammer out a deal. If you cant get one hammered out then you can trade him at the deadline, and hopefully you get a better return. Maybe a top winger instead of "same as 3 other guys" center. |

Call me crazy but I really liked what I saw out of morin in the preseason. I'm pretty high on him and think he will be a solid player. - funmaster18

If they re-ranked again today, Laughton might be a top-5 pick, and Trouba and Galchenyuk might have leap-frogged Yakupov.
I'm certainly not lamenting the loss of Olli Maatta... Hamilton versus Couturier is a much more worthy debate. |

That was done in March. I'm sure Maata is higher then Laughton now. lol - youarewrong
Thats sorta my point fella... They will continue to all switch space and places and what not... until about 10 years from now when you can truly see how they have progressed...
For all we know, Laughton comes in next year with new found offensive prowess and confidence and puts up 80 points while being a two way force.. Then, once again they would switch spots.

Well, you dont just bring in these players and say boom, top line player. They do have to be brought along. So they will start as bottom pair guys that have cap friendly salaries, and eventually will move up. So Short term UFA options is how I would go. |

All I was saying is given our team needs now and then, Maata would have been a better pick. Since you cant say what they will do in the Future, Maata would be filling a team need much more then Laughton whom was stuck behind Couts, Schenn, Giroux, and Lecavalier. |

Unless Homer's going to suddenly develop the patience to dive into the late-summer bargain bin, short term and UFA don't exactly go together when it comes to dmen for the Flyers.
You're more liable to get Dion Phaneuf on an 8-year $60M+ deal, or Dan Boyle on a a Streit-type 35+ deal than you are to get anything that makes sense in terms of working the prospects in slowly.

Adding Vanek is appealing, but he's going to cost a ton to get in a trade, and assuming he signs, you're looking at another $8mm+ cap hit.
Buffalo, at a guess, will want Voracek or Simmonds, Couturier or Laughton and a 1st rounder or two to make it work. They got a ton for Pominville, doubt they sell Vanek cheaply - Jsaquella
It would be a dream come true for Buffalo to hold onto Miller AND Vanek then have both walk for nothing at the end of the season. Who knows where we'll be come TDL but unless every single player on the roster steps their game up, were not in any position to be trading for Vanek |

Change Maatta to Luke Schenn and Laughton to JvR, and you have the baseline rationale for the JvR/Schenn deal. |

A win's a win.
It was great to see Read get on the board. He's been working his tail off all season long, and finally got rewarded.
Still have concerns. They keep trying to be too fancy. Keep things simple and drive the net, make the easy pass, don't force things and when it doubt blast it at the net.
Mason with another solid game. Really like how he is not letting a fluky goal turn into two or three goals. - Jsaquella
drive the net!!! yes please.
also, right after you and i briefly discussed mason last night i watched the highlights on nhl.com, the commentator dude (don't know who it was) was railing mason for letting that coburn deflection in. "you HAVE to stop that." guy would have had a shutout but for a fluky deflection and they're still talking poop on him.

Can we just accept the fact that he is not a superstar (i.e. as much as it pains me to say this, Crosby, Stamkos, Ovechkin, hell...even Tavaras). He's a very good player and we'll just leave it at that.
Not to mention, I totally agree with whole "giving him the "C" too early" argument. - Corporate_hater
He came in during 08/09, was arguably our best player, then became our leading scorer, before becoming "the man" in 11/12. He then had a PPG last year.
Maybe it's an abberation? Maybe. |

LAughton 12th? wow. But seriously, i think its WAYYYYYY to soon to be judging the 2012 draft. I think you have to wait like 5 years before judging drafts. |

But again, there is no rational way to project how soon a guy like Maata would make the NHL. Hell, we coulda picked him, and then he mighta ended making his NHL debut in 2017...
Laughton is a hell of a player. |

and that just shows how bipolar it is to be basing NHL careers on such a short time frame. Maata may be a stud one day or he may very well flat line and be ok or he very well may turn into Myers and become a mess. I am not going to sit here and whine about Maata over Laughton when Laughton hasn't even started his NHL career yet and Maata has a handful of games. Now Marshall over Subban makes me |

He didn't look out of place in the few preseason games he saw. Still, I'd like him to have one more QMJHL year and then some time (1/2 year) in the AHL before he's brought in. - jmatchett383
It will have to be 2 more yrs in Juniors. if he stays next year, there won't be any AHL time because of his age |
