i honestly was hoping we had that with talbot/hall/rinaldo
rinaldo had made some improvements on the stupid penalty front but he seems to be having a bit of a regression - -davies-
He has regressed a bit. The three penalty game, and now this one, with two really dumb penalties are concerning. I like the energy and that he gets under other team's skin, but he's got to avoid being a liability.
He doesn't do enough besides bringing energy and drawing penalties to justify a spot if he's incapable of staying out of the box. He's a horrible possession player, his speed and decent puck skills don't translate into offense and he's a mediocre defensive player.
Playing him with Rosehill is basically deciding to play shorthanded for a game. |

i think i could really learn to like the hartnell/schenn/jake line - -davies-
I thought JV and Baby Schenn were good last season.
Harts slid right in there last night.
They looked dangerous all game. |

if schenn can just pot a few, he can become a fixture at 2nd line center. |

I can't be too hard on anyone last night on the Flyers.
They played well as a team, everyone seemed to fit in their roles and they trusted each other.
A few dumb plays but over 90% was good.
Berube seems to have a good feel for the players and putting the lines together.
For example I liked where he put Hartnell and Hartnell seemed to play well.
Sending McGinn down wasn't popular but looks like the right move.
More importantly the players seem to be buying into the coach's system.
Their team D is better then it has been in a while.
Last year's team would gave given up 5+ odd man rushes to the Islanders.
We didn't see that last night. - Marc D
I like the lines too. I think Hartnell eventually ends up with Vinny and G.
It's almost like Simmonds needs to play with two good defensive forwards at all times. I thought he played well last night though.

I said it several times, but I like Schenn and Voracek together. They seem to have good chemisty. That chemistry was on display on Voracek's goal. Schenn made a nice little one touch pass to Voracek to spring the break. |

When he's going good, he's the second most entertaining guy on the team, behind Giroux-when G is on top of his game, anyhow. |

I've said this before: I actually think he could probably kill penalties, if he worked at it and actually tried to just play the game. I thought right after the coaching change was made and the debacle against Phoenix, he had settled down and was playing well.
But last night...you just can't have that. It's not just him. You can't have that kind of play from anyone. It's just worse when it's a player on the fourth line, because the rule of thumb has never changed: The fourth line should never hurt you in a game. |

jolly p used to be my favorite american brewery but i have noticed their recipes seemed to have changed, they seem to be trying to appeal to the hoppier market and it just isn't working for me. i wish they'd just make some new beers instead of changing my old favorites! my pub has a keg of this year's oro, but they got sent a bad keg so i didn't get to try it |

But, positive things:
How about that Steve Mason? I think it would be nice to get Ray Emery a start against a former team on Tuesday and to give Mason a bit of a rest, but wow...I just think he's the guy. And it's a good feeling.
Someone else said that the other night: If you're going to blame Paul Holmgren for what he hasn't done well, you sure can't overlook Steve Mason for a Michael Leightron and a third-round pick...in 2015!! |

if i'm not mistaken, the shorthanded goal started w/ a bad cross-ice pass in the offensive zone, no? also, they did not show a replay of rinaldo's penalty but JJ and SJ seemed to think it waas a marginal call. did anyone see it?
thankful for the win, team looked pretty good |

Yes, it was in the offensive zone, from Voracek...and it wasn't a marginal call. It was a clear penalty -- believe me, I was just shaking my head when I saw it. |

yes there was a stupid cross-ice pass on the PP that ended up being the shortie, not sure who did it, streit or jake maybe? no matter though as they are all guilty of it.
i thought the first rinaldo penalty which they called charging was a bit of a weak call, but his second one in the third period was just him being dumb. |

what did he do? - hogweed
It was clipping; he approached a player from the side, maybe even slightly behind, and got him low; the player didn't even have the puck, which was why I knew it was a penalty. |
