Coming from a fan of another team, I do believe Moulson could have gotten the Islanders a 1st round pick at the trade deadline, and believe me...I really don't like the guy. - ThePresident
so moulson is worth a 1st round pick at the deadline but vanek is only worth a 3rd round pick + a UFA in october? |

Just wait until you get one taste of Vanek's slapper and you won't be complaining... that is, if the Isles make the playoffs.
Vanek was the best player in this deal. The picks might have indicated a high price, but if the Isles rebuild is truly over, Vanek could be a crucial player. |

Exactly I think both teams got exactly what they needed.
problem is both teams still need much more in our case a top D-men, preferably 2.

or.............if they don't make the playoffs, he demands a ton of money, there will be tears on the Island. I have a feeling Garth Snow's job depends on how this works out.....maybe. Of course I would think he would have been fired for the DiPietro deal. haha - Charlie Conway
I wish people would stop hanging the Dipietro deal on Snow. Everyone and their dog knows that was Wang's signing and Snow didn't have much say in it. |

They could have traded Moulson for a 1st rounder at the deadline. If they really wanted to improve the team, they could have traded the 1st and 2nd for Vanek while keeping Moulson....this just doesn't seem like that big an improvement, maybe make them win 5 more games....but that's not worth what they gave up. - ThePresident
I think you're just trolling but I'll bite. You keep mentioning that 5 games isn't worth it... Are you serious? 10 points is a big deal in a playoff race! |

The Islanders should fire Garth Snow. Seriously, the UFA for UFA trade makes sense. But to lose a 1st & 2nd round pick. It would have made more sense if they were conditional picks subject to Vanek re-signing. I feel bad for the Islander fans, they deserve better than this. - Sammy Van Hagar
So just to be clear... Garth Snow grabs Moulson off the scrap heap. Puts a team on the ice with a Cap Floor Sallary and we made the playoffs.... AND He should be fired for getting Vanek for Moulson b/c he gave up 2 picks too? Okie dokey.. got it. |

Moulson goes to the Net... and has great hands, work ethic, and scoring touch. That said I am happy to have Vanek and hope somehow next year we end up with both of them. |

Don't get your hopes up about getting both. I think offensively you guys are set. You have two decent top lines. Now you just need to figure out your defense and goaltending situation. |

So you're fine with the Islanders losing Moulson, Vanek, a 1st and 2nd rounder all for nothing? - ThePresident
Where do you get for nothing? If Vanek doesn't sign with NY they trade him at the deadline and will get a return similiar to what they gave up. Moulson more then likely is here till the deadline and will be moved bc he won't sign with the situation as it is. NY could then re-sign Moulson in July if things don't workout out with Vanek.
Buffalo is in a win-win situation and the worst NY does is break even.

I don't think the Islanders are trading Vanek at the deadline. The Islanders are going for the Stanley Cup, bottom line.
If they can't re-sign Vanek, they'll probably trade his rights at the draft to acquire a pick back. |
|

I'm guessing that both teams knew they weren't signed their player..so they are both taking a chance that they can sign the newly acquired guy.
My hockey friends and I talk about Vanek all the time..and what he could do with a legit #1 center. He's been playing his entire career with at best..a #2 but more realistically a #3 center. Him and JT will light it up for the Islanders. The amount of scoring chances Vanek creates all by himself is actually pretty ridiculous
To the guy the referenced Vanek's speed....well...there is none. As a Sabres season ticket holder and watching Vanek play for 8+ years..I can tell ya the speed is not his game.
Moulson looks a little like Leino to me (note I said a 'little') in playing with an elite center... and probably not as good as the numbers would say.
Right now I think the Sabres won this trade by quite a bit. But once JT and TV get going...it might be a 180 reversal |

Here is something to think about, this is JT's team so how do you think he will feel if NY were to resign Vanek who will command more then what JT is being paid (6 mil)...this has no bearing this year but what about the following years if Vanek is signed? |

I don't care what people think of the trade. The point is that we finally made a trade that we got an elite player. I don't care if anyone thinks Vanek isn't or is...The point is that he has been playing alone at Buffalo with no players. Is it fair or not? I don't know. Only time will prove that when he is on ice with Tavares. If it makes a difference then people will shut up. |

First off 90% of the nay sayers are Toronto fans, so ignore them. Everyone has an opinion which they are entitled to but most, not all Toronto fans just come to troll. They finally have a good team and they are now know it alls.
I think NY gets the better of it at the start bc no matter how many prospects are traded they have to develope into NHL players so it's a crap shoot in that respect. You get a known quanity in TV and he should put up big numbers having JT as his center and JT will also flourish bc TV will get him the puck as much in return. Vanek is not a selfish player.
I don't see Moulson here after the trade deadline as the Sabres will trade him for more draft picks and also ensure that next year will be as bad as if not worse then this year. All part of the plan to draft in top 3 if not number 1 overall the next two years. |

Vanek has publicly stated that he would like to sign in Minnesota in the offseason, not my prediction. - ThePresident
I'd like to know where you saw or read that Vanek has stated he would like to sign with the Wild. Show me some proof.
To the best of my knowledge, when asked about his future he would say something along the lines of "Let's wait and see" or "I'm keeping an open mind about my future". |

Back it up,if he's elite than so is Moulson, he's very good but I've seen too many people attaching elite to a one sniper who's not very fast, he's a much better version of Ray Sheppard |

I just felt that it is a good move because Vanek is a upgrade over Moulson. I would like to see how MOulson does in Buffalo. If he does well, good for him. He deserves it. Can we just imagine this if Vanek decides to resign with us?
Vanek Tavares Okposo
Grabner Nielsen Bailey
Strome Nelson Clutterback
Martin Cizikas Mcdonald
Hamonic Macdonald
Visnyosky Reinhart
Donovan Mayfield
Could we trade for a goalie anda defenseman then it woul dlook good for us |

Well Vanek is probably better than Smyth so we got something to look forward. If he decides to be Smyth 2, no problem we just boo him everytime he touches a puck when he plays us. Heh! |

I agree hes not elite. the elite players in this league are JT, Crosby Ovie Toews and Malkin. hes in the category of Rick Nash. Both better than Moulson but not up to JT status. |

Vanek may or may not be elite, but he's better than Moulson. Vanek has shown the ability to make plays by himself, something Moulson has not. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see Vanek off of Tavares' line at times this year for depth purposes. |
