I meant as a possible TDL rental acquisition, assuming we're buyers. I think he's a UFA this offseason. - jmatchett383
Yes, he is...If they could move Meszaros' salary out in the deal, sure. I'd like to keep as much cap room to add a top pair defenseman, rather than trade a pick/prospect package for Ott and get saddled with his while hit while retaining Meszaros' |

Yeah, wouldn't that be perfect. But honestly, and I haven't felt I could type these words in a long time, I think there is enough organization depth to make up for that in case it happens.

Honest talk. I don't think Rosehill wins or loses games, but I don't see what he adds to the team. Do we really need a heavyweight on the ice if he's not contributing in any area except fighting?
Seeing him on the ice reminds me of how the Flyers failed to acquire a solid 4th line player who can contribute by playing good defense or killing penalties. - PhillySportsGuy
I do not disagree.
Him and Rinaldo together is not great.
I wonder why Hall has fallen out of favor.
He has been waived and moved a ton, but he is good at the dot and doesn't hurt them defensively and can play PK, and Rosehill doesn't do any of that. |

To be fair there were rumors of Simmonds, Couturier, Coburn, and a 2nd for Hemsky and Yakupov.
Just like there are rumors for Voracek, Coburn, and a blue chip prospect for Buff and Little.
It's not a big suprise that Edmonton is looking for defense and Goaltending. They are dangling Yakupov, because defense and Goaltending cost more then a scoring forward.... SEE JVR for Schenn. A lot of Rumors are out of Montreal because they have the defense to give, but Nobody really has the Goaltending to trade other then Sabres. HOWEVER, Miller doesnt want to go to Canada.
So, if I'm Homer and my job is on the line anyway, I might do something drastic. Since Mason is Young and looks like he has refound his game, that might really interest Edmonton. Plus if they could get a Defenseman too.... Then Flyers need a goalie, well Miller might be coming here to replace Mason. Miller has looked really good this year and Buffalo has no choice but to trade him....
So Mason+Coburn for Yakupov. Simmonds+2014 pick for Miller.

Why not just trade Simmonds, Coburn and a pick for Yakupov & a guy like Smid or a pick? Then you don't have a big contract with a veteran goalie and have more options elsewhere?

I would do that. Just a feeling that Edmonton would be holding out for a better defenseman out of the deal though. What makes my deal so inticing for Edmonton is that you help the defense in the short term with Coburn, but Mason is the goalie they have been looking for. Someone that is on growth pace with Hall and Eberle. |

Byfuglien is a very good offensive defenseman. But when discussing the overall play of defenseman in the League, all factors of the game should be considered. And Byfuglien isn't close to the level of any of those players in my opinion. - MJL
... because Karlsson and Subban were Norris winners based on their two-way game, and OEL/Pietrangelo have a long demonstrated track record of excellence, and Keith/Suter have made everybody forget Bobby Orr, and Mr. Sacred Cow Weber is a hockey player without discernible flaws.
I'm not a huge fan of bringing Byfuglien here myself, but he's right up there in terms of physical tools + puck skills + experience + production.... maybe at the top. The rest of the stuff obviously holds him back, but the fact that he's still so productive/durable despite it all tells you just how fantastic of a hockey player he is. |

And then Holmgren should be fired in my opinion. It still remains to be seen how Mason works out in the long term. But the possibility exists that the Flyers may have a good young goalie that they can put in the net for who knows how many years going forward. Not trading him where the end result is that he is replace by an older Miller. Don't need or want Yakupov that badly. |

Well, yes. Everyone whose name isn't Crosby is available. I'm sure the Flyers could acquire Malkin for Giroux, Vinny, Read, and 17 1st round picks and 100% salary retainment. - jmatchett383
Or they could just trade Raffl for Malkin heads up. First line player, for second line player. |

More exaggeration here. Byfuglien is a good offensive defenseman. But he is not in the class offensively of Karlsson or Subban in my opinion. Nor is he as good of an all around player as Subban is. Nor is he as good as any of the other defenseman I named in my opinion. Throw in all the silly Bobby Orr comments you want. He's a good Hockey player, and a a good offensive defenseman. He is not a fantastic Hockey player in my opinion. And he's not in the class of the players I named in my opinion. |

IMO Miller has a lot of hockey left in him. Its not a position that you peak at 26-32. And the upside of Yakupov is well worth taking that chance IMO. |

Miller's also going to cost you at least double what Mason will if you resign Mason. I'd like the Flyers to, for once, stop skipping from goalie to goalie or chasing the big-name UFA (Beezer, Bryz) and just stick with their (relatively) young goalie. |

Congrats on picking up the sarcasm. I have to agree with with Hawk here. Buff, while not perfect, has almost as much impact as anyother offensive d-man out there. What he doesnt do defensively, he makes up for with being so unpredictable offensively. Letang, Karlsson, OEL, Subban. They do score at a similiar pace but they arent the type to take the puck and rush with it a la kim johnson....lol Or take the puck down past the goalie. They are more often then not to set-up in a prime scoring position and wait for someone to hit them with the puck and put a well placed shot behind a goalie.
While that is great for a defenseman, in terms of "creating" offense, Buff is in a leauge of his own for defenseman. |

True.
Who reqally thought Subban had a chance of winning the Norris last year? Or even Karlsson the year before? Both stepped up and had great offensive years, and well, there you go.
The criteria for the trophy has been for mainly offensive production ever since the Rod Langway years. |

I thought "all factors of the game should be considered"?
Karlsson is downright bad defensively on a lot of nights. Subban makes a lot of youthful mistakes as well. Ditto OEL and Pietrangelo.
Why do they make the cut, in your opinion, and Buff (who just so happens to be top-3 in points/game from the blueline over the last several years) is out in the cold?
Could it be that you're being arbitrary in your application of standards? |

Maybe because he holds a grudge after he scored on him in the first period of game 6.
