Again, you need somebody who is desperate.
In the Gaustaud trade, Poile was desperate to convince his two stud defensemen he was serious about being a contender. In the Zhitnik deal, Don Waddell's job was on the line-no playoffs and he probably gets fired.
Does Hartnell waive his NMC and spend the next three years in Edmonton or Columbus? Does Timonen ditch his family to play a couple months in Anaheim? Possible, but not sold. - Jsaquella
At least half the league will be "desperate" always are. Every year. Kimmo would wave to go to cup contender. Hartnell too. If we could wind up with 4 to 6 picks in the top 60 I'd be very happy. Plus would save salary. Kimmo is gone after this year anyways and face it hartnell is very replaceable. So is coburn/mez/grossman. If we move mason though I might drop flyers from future thoughts lol |

Everyone laughs at buffalo but I really like what they're doing. They have some really nice young players on roster and or coming up soon. Then you look at them trading pomminville for #1 pick( zadorov) and drafting risto last year. Trade vanek get extra 1 and 2 pick. Going to flip moulson ( probably for another 1) gonna have at least 5 picks in top 60 this year. Going to rebuild real fast doing that. We don't have to go to that extreme but following that game plan somewhat is what I'd like to see |

Tough game, but Flyers win tonight, 4-3. Giroux (PP), Couturier, Simmonds, Voracek get goals. Streit with two assists. |

The others gamble as well. Like I said they drift to scoring lanes that are usually away from thier defensive assignments and await the puck to come to them. Buff is just a completely different beast. He creates more offense for him and those around him.
You keep bringing up his weight, but yet it hasn't impacted his play. He is a top defenseman and has speed, and creates offense. Bill does not like him and think he has issues. But that doesn't change what he is or what he can do.
For me, I would welcome Buff. And I would pair him with someone quick that has good passing skills like Gus. Much like Enstrom. - youarewrong
How do you know that it hasn't impacted his play? How do you know that he wouldn't be a better player, if he was in better physical shape?

Keep on dragging out the Gaustad trade.
That's one of the absolute worst trades in the past 10 years. You just don't get that inane value in everyday trades. |

Yea? Didn't they also just get done significantly changing the "future" of the team by trading Top Prospect Schenn and promising forward Simmonds for a vet Mike Richards? And then when they struggled they made a tough decision and traded a cap firendly young offensive d-man for a top line scoring Jeff Carter?
If you think of this team in terms of a puzzle, the puzzle is almost complete. Just missing some pieces. You think LA regrets trading Johnson, Schenn, and Simmonds? Just like I wouldnt mind trading Couts, Laughton, or Simmonds. Gotta crack some eggs to make omlettes. - youarewrong
The Kings are in a different spot then the Flyers are now. I think the Flyers are more then just a few moves from being in the Cup mix.

It really depends on which Hartnell you're talking about. The good Hartnell, the one that we saw signs of against the Isles, is not easy to replace. it would have to be a very good haul to think about trading Hartnell.

To me what we lack the most is a stud #1 defenseman and a solid 2 guy. Looks like we might have solved the tending issue. The talent is there at forward. |

You really think Hartnell could be a deadline move with his contract?
If he's traded I see it happening at the draft or sometime soon. I don't think a team good enough to have a playoff spot locked up at the deadline will want to invest so heavily in a guy they didnt need to lock up said spot. |

He's not the typical veteran impending UFA that is normally traded at the deadline, so I think it's more likely that if he was going to be traded, it would be in the off season. But you never know. I think Hartnell is a better player then he is perceived to be by many. And I think if he plays as he is capable of, then he is well worth his contract. He had a really bad year last year, and that has left a bad taste with some.

Eric had that one good year after he got traded and was either injured or average after that.
I doubt anyone was pining away for the Dallas Stars version of the E-Train. - johndewar
Nope. Once he and Bure weren't paired up and E hurt his shoulder and had his first surgery he wasn't the same. |

I'm not saying to keep them for the sake of keeping them...I doubt a real contender has a need for Hartnell or Timonen. And while Timonen is a UFA in the summer, Hartnell has 3 years left on his deal...where ever he goes, he's got to agree to be there for 3 years.
I one sentence you saying that a desperate team would jump to get them, and in the next you're saying the Flyers wouldn't miss them. A lot of them ARE replaceable, but you're not going to get much for them.

Or they could just trade Raffl for Malkin heads up. First line player, for second line player. - PLindbergh31
Or trading Giroux or Maroon...first line for first line. |
