Because 90% of what we have heard from other fans is absurdly negative regarding everything to do with the Leafs.

Anything positive is simply ignored, or just luck.

Then they better hope they draft a franchise D at some point and the young guns all remain in their prime for the next 6 years while that Dman develops.

The going rate for a #1 D is going to be that much. Phaneuf, like it or not, is a legit #1D. He may not be the best in the league, but he is still a rare commodity.

Yeah he wants Norris money for barely norris-nomination-worthy play.

That said there's a valid point that we don't have too many other options in terms of minute-eating Dmen. I think the main option is allowing the goaltending to take the extra slack. Hell it's not like having Dion in the lineup has positively impacted our shots-against totals.
