Here's a thought so the Leafs don't lose Phanuef if they don't want to give him what he is seeking. Now this idea is hypothetical based on IF Dion does not re-sign here.

Since Buffalo got $7 mill off the books when they dealt Vanek, mabie the Sabres will take Dion for Myers. Now b4 all the pro-Dions out here FREAK out, I mean I know some Leaf fans hate Myers but it's better than losing Dion as a UFA for nothing.

Without Phaneuf, this Leaf team will not make the playoffs and there is no one out there who will replace Phaneuf (even if there was, it would still cost close to 7mill).

Some Leaf fans would prefer to not make the playoffs then pay Phaneuf like the top dman that he is.

As the saying goes, they would rather "cut off their nose to spite their face". I prefer Phaneuf + playoffs then no Phaneuf and no playoffs.

Well I'll give u ctredit for common sense. Some on here just don't get it. Dion & Luke DO NOT get along so it's pointless to think we can have em both back again. But your suggestion is great. If we can't sign Dion, see if we can trade Dion for Luke. I'm not sure Philly can fit Dion under the salary cap but it's worth trying.
I bet Luke would flourish under RC.
