The D isn't that bad. Its got 4 legitimate top 4 defenceman. Ference, Smid and Petry are all steady defensively. Schultz is bad to put it lightly. But that should be well enough to do good enough. A bottom pairing of Belov-Schultz-Grebeshkov isn't a bad make up either.

They're just never in position. Like they never have a forward in the open ice. Defensively once a team links 3 passes with motion they're running around like crazy.

I sort of feel that Eakins is like a college football coach who goes pro and thinks he's smarter than the rest of the coaches. Or at least thats the vibe I've gotten from what I've absorbed from the media. "His defensive system will be unlike anything teams have seen! They won't know how to attack!" Like Chip Kelly's offence.

I think they're squeaking by with a handful of NHLers; not a top 4 I would be proud of, that's for sure. Smid is decent, and Ference is ok, but I think Ference is a bit misplaced in his role; he's a 4/5 guy on most teams.

I like Bozak as the 3rd line center.

I would send him back to Junior after 40 games or whatever. Keep him for a while, send him to star in the WJC and then give Ottawa some money to trade him to a contender. Same thing St.Louis did with Pietrangelo.

The good has been good, but there are times where he's spent entire shifts, long ones, trapped in his zone because he does not fair well against a lot of matchups. But he's scoring so it looks okay. I just wonder how the tune on him will change once he hits a 10 game streak of bad play and isn't getting production.
