Exactly. So... Who's ready to anoint Bernier? TO hype machine in full force. - aminnes
I actually wanted the Sabres to trade for him
Possibly grow into a top Goalie
You guys are ready NOW for a real #1 so u can make a legit run at the cup
It that case, it would makes sense to give Phaneuf the $$$ he's asking for
You guys probably aren't all that far off
If you'd be willing to part with prospects & picks...
Guys like Ehrhoff, Ott & Miller would really fit in nice up there
It would take A LOT, ESP to get all 3...
But do a Mock line-up with them & see what it looks like
Actually, Moulson would look there too
Sabres will be trading some pretty good players between now & the deadline
Just depends on who'll pay what Darcy is asking |

Both bring more wins to the table, if we get rid of one of them we will have a poop backup. Therefore having both is a good situation which they both don't cost us much. |

Leafs have players that can fill all those positions, so no thanks,
Ott=Clarkson
Miller=nobody.
Ehrhoff=Ranger.

I'd take Ott for the bottom six. Ott and Gaustad are probably two of my favorite non-Leaf role players. Those guys just go to work and get the job done.
I also used to like Bolland in that category. I was over the moon when we got him. |

I like Ott too, just thinking where or who he'd replace? Bottom 3 is a no brainer, but does he replace Kuli? He'd be a plus for the team no doubt, but where does he play? |

I think Kulemin is pretty much a goner at this point unless he plays some exceptional hockey when he returns. His absence has certainly not been felt at all. |

Just got off work and saw the replays.
NHL.com says that Kadri got the last one, they should give it to Rielly. |

Rielly will get plenty of goals.. If Kadri could give it to Rielly i'm sure he would. |

Does the way Kessel and JVR pass to one another remind anyone else of the Sundin/Mogilny era where they used to find each other like crazy with cross crease passes? |

With the way Reimer and Bernier have been playing it's hard to say they AREN'T legit #1 goalies. Reimer has 11 career shutouts in only 110 career games and is 2nd in the league right now in save percentage. He and Bernier have both stood on their head making 35-40 saves a night. We have no need for Miller who has started a bit of a decline over the last few seasons.
As for Ott, we don't really need him. Our bottom 6 is relatively solid. Ehrhoff I wouldn't mind getting, I think he's definitely an upgrade over Ranger, however, we have Liles who in my opinion SHOULD be in the line-up since he's far and away better than Ranger is but Carlyle just has something against him it seems.
I'd LOVE to get Moulson, but you guys JUST traded for him, I can't see you getting rid of him already. I'm sure Buffalo will try and get an extension worked out. He's a great young player that Buffalo needs to keep if they want to start a good rebuild. |

I think Phaneuf would be classified as a "good" player,
But not a "game changer"
He's the type of guy that can look better or worse based on the team around him
Not exactly the kind of guy I wanna pay top $$$ for
Not unless the rest of the team around him is good enough to where u can make a legit run at the cup - jdfitz77
I wouldn't call Phaneuf a "game changer" either but I'd say he's a great player, not just good.
Nobody other than Weber has more goals on defense than Dion does since they came in the league. Plus, since Ron Wilson has left he's been playing a TON better defensively. He needs the right coach, and in Calgary he wasn't getting it, and in Toronto Wilson wasn't doing it either. But Carlyle has been a huge difference for him. I think he is worth $7.1 million which is the rumoured amount he'll get. And when you think about it, he's already a 6.5 million cap hit, so another $600k isn't THAT much more for Toronto to do. The difficulty is going to be on the term of the contract. |

mccoun and kypreos were debating it on the radio tonight, and mccoun said not once, but twice that there are 30 teams in the league where he would not be #1.
after the first time, kipper said well he is #1 where he is now, and mccoun said that's the only team, at best Phaneuf is the 31st best d in the league because 30 teams that arent the leafs wouldnt pay him as #1..
must have been heavy into the sauce, cause he was dead serious. - Rockhead_37

Except he scores enough pts to be classified as a top player. The pts he produces say that he's worth the $ he's asking for. And on top of that he plays tons of mins and all of his minutes are against the elite players.

He hasn't played this well since his big season in Calgary. He wants that spot in Sochi. |
