Good AHL coaches don't always make good head coaches. Good assistants don't always make good NHL coaches. Running a bench where the players can female dog for 20 games and get you fired is different than one where guys are scared of being sent to the ECHL for 300 bucks a week.

But its too early to say with Eakins. I'm just surprised the Oilers have not adapted to whatever system they're supposed to be playing. The only other team in the league to struggle this hard after a coaching change has been the Rags.

The Canucks took to Torts after like 3 games. Dallas and Ruff have done well enough except their defence is probably as bad as Edmontons. Cooper and Mueller are both doing fine now that they have had actual training camps. The Avs took to what Roy wanted like it was nothing.

Oilers don't compete hard enough. Plain and simple. Don't protect puck in their own zone. System has nothing to do with it. Need to work.

He's not terribly wrong about the compete. A lot of times guys just come up limp on the battle. Size is a little more of a puck protection thing.

Schultz has got to learn to back check better. When he pinches in he doesn't have anyone covering and then its a 3 on 1 back and he's gliding.

i can't blame bachman much for any of the goals. i would still send lab down to ahl and keep bachman up with dubnyk.
